I would not recommend this professor to anybody. He spends the majority of lecture making inappropriate jokes that only he laughs at. He is incredibly strict on grading speech outlines. If you dont have the exact margin spacing he wants, dont expect to pass. The exams are 100% textbook based and don't reflect what was covered in class whatsoever.

The only professor that Ive ever had that wouldnt let us use the bathroom. Lectures are worthless but its mandatory that you go. Exams are the book word for word. Stereotyped his students a lot, it come off rude more often than not. Threatened us with work like we were high school students. Interrupted us a lot when participating. Dont take him

4 tests mainly based off the textbook that he will not lecture about. 2 informative speeches with a required outline. Probably one of the funniest professors I've had but he gets off topic a lot. He does keep a light environment to make speaking in front of the class a lot easier.

Not a great professor. Gives 5 tests, 2 informative speeches, and 1 persuasive speech. He lectures but goes off topic and waste time in class talking about other things than the lecture. Grades harshly on speeches and expects a lot from you. Take someone else, don't take this professor!

John is a funny professor , who cares about ensuring his students succeed . Now thats as nice as Ill get . His grading is tough and if you are missing one criteria , you lose full credit for an assignment. His tests are about the book , hell never discuss the book or go over what the text has . Should have received a B , but he grades toughly .

Very funny and gives positive feedback. Show up to class for attendance points. Gave papers and grades back within a week after speeches. Tests have nothing to do with lecture, answers and content are all in the textbook we never even talked about.

John is something else and that might be a understatement. I never left his class without laughing , he is by far the funniest teacher I have ever had. He will engage with all his students and its amazing. His class is not hard at all but be warned his tests and lectures are not really connected, so make sure you read the text book for the tests.

John is the best prof ever. Cracked me up every single class. He made lectures relatable and fun. He genuinely cares for his students and gets to know each one of them. You'll need to read the textbook and take lecture notes for the tests. Totally recommend him. He helped me conquer stage fright and was very encouraging

Take him! I loved his class. You start out with lectures and about 3 exams at the beginning of the semester and you end off with 2 speeches. He helps you out a lot and is really fun! Tests are mostly book so READ and go to class bc attendance counts. Easy class if you work for it.

Cannot pass if you have 3 unexcused absences or if you fail to show up for your speech day. Genuinely cares about his students' progress, provides feedback, and responds to emails. Earn points from tests, speech outlines and performances. Use study guides for tests and take notes while reading. Get at least a B if you put forth any effort.

Its an okay class over all. However, his exams are based off the textbook. So you have to read. His lectures do not help for exams. Your basically on your own. I cant take him seriously. Sometimes his jokes get annoying

Overall he was a great professor. He loves to make jokes so be prepared. Somewhat of a tough grader when it comes to speeches and outlines though. Reading the textbook is key to getting good grades on the exams. He is always willing to help you improve your speech and understands that most people are nervous. Overall an excellent teacher! Take him.

He is easy going and loves to make jokes, if you cannot take jokes do not take his class. He likes students who toss back what he gives so its okay. He will work with you if you ask him and was very understanding about students getting nervous when presenting. Read the chapters for the tests and send your outlines to him when you finish.

By far my favorite professor, he is so easy to get along with. His class will always be easy and fun if you participate. Dont be afraid to throw some low blows at him, he loves it when students can be sarcastic. His lectures are not what are on the test so READ THE TEXTBOOK, group exams sometimes but overall easy class.

Professor Gilgun is by far my best professor at CSUS. Gilgun gave two tests the whole semester and two speeches. My speeches were both 17-19 pages long, but I learned so much about myself and APA/MLA format. We had to do research and got to choose our debate teams. I would love to take his class again.

Majority of the class failed out. He was not very helpful. He would just tell you to refer to the documents online. He grades extremely hard. There were groups that presented and received a zeros. Leaving them with the same grade as students who didn't even show up to their debate. They did not even receive credit for presenting.

He assigns you into groups that you will do two speeches and a project. Three tests and the final test is extra credit if you take all three tests. Don't take if you hate speeches. He takes attendance and two absences your grade drops. Two tardies equal and absence. He pushes the limit on his joked but encourages you to get him back..
