Comment:
The guy will lecture staring down at the podium for 40 minutes without raising his head once to see people raising their hand. Class is completely unclear and lacks structure. Complete waste of time if not for the fact it was a required course.

Comment:
It's an english class so obviously there's a lot of reading, but the professor is very open with the class to the point of being unclear (literally, he mumbles and you miss major assignments) but its all discussion based and pretty free-flowing. as a non-english major it was hard

Professor Reilly is affable, considerate, easily approachable, and dedicated. He makes room for students to work at their pace and organizes his class in an interesting manner that encourages students present always for lectures. He allows his student to express their view on the subject under discussion to reach a consensus in amicable manner.

Professor Reilly is a great teacher. Yes his lectures are long, and sometimes they may drag on, but he is a very nice professor and only wants the bests for his students. His classes are easy, but when it comes time to take a test or quiz he expects highly of everyone.

Comment:
Grading is inconsistent and unclear. Comments on papers were irrelevant. If you want an A, be ready to write reflection papers on race. Expects some sort of magical life revelation in each paper we write. Doesn't offer much help when asked for it. Expectations are not laid out well on syllabus.

Smart men, bad professor. I got an A in this class but had to bust my ass off and was still always worried. He is a hard grader and a difficult man in general. His intensity can be offensive sometimes.

I see all these reviews, and I have to agree with them in part. Yes, Reilly IS tough, and his lectures are long and somewhat mundane, but overall, I excelled in his class by being persistent and showing him I cared about his course. IF you are a good student who TRIES, then you'll be fine. Most people just dont care enough

By far the worst professor I've ever had. He turned an American Lit class in to a race relations class, which I didn't sign up for. I went to his office hours multiple times to go over papers that he said looked "inspired" and then would give me a B on the paper. Extremely scattered and unorganized. Monotoned lectures. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.

His pop quizzes were frustratingly impossible, even for the most studious and bright students. One time he admitted to purposely leaving the option "none of the above" off of a multiple choice scantron quiz just so everyone would miss at least one question. Not uncommon to get 0% with no explanation why on opinion based essay quizzes. Awful.

After taking his class, despite being warned against it, I see that the warnings are correct. Grades are arbitrary, will not explain himself (probably incapable of doing so), and is insulting/mean to students. I went to office hours to figure out what he wanted from his students and was told that I should not be "brown nosing".

Is he still a professor? When I had him, he would go off on racial tangents about how he was oppressed, especially tiresome when it had nothing to do with the class. Grading was inconsistent and very unclear.

Will mumble his lecture to the desk, then grade you mercilessly on your paper. Think you can speak with him to figure out what he wants? Try again, will insult you and cut you down. Avoid this professor and any class that he teaches. I look back at college and definitely rank him the worst professor I've had.

Despite reading the many negative reviews posted here, I still enrolled in his class, thinking "No professor could possibly be that bad and still be teaching." I was very wrong-I can honestly say it was the biggest mistake of my academic career thus far. Please, please take the criticisms listed here into account before you decide to take his class

Being in grad school and looking back on the quality of professors at LMU, it really shows me how bottom of the barrel this clown is. Has a chip on his shoulder, will not listen to you, is not clear with what he wants. Any attempt to figure out what he is looking for only upset him more.

I agree with the other 2. I learned absolutely nothing during the actual class and fell asleep on a regular basis. The content is interesting. 2 quizzes that are vocab-based and performing a scene with a group. 1 review of live theater. hard essay grader. just kind of weird and ridiculous in general, but he's nice.

Does the english department even know about how terrible this guy is? There are tons of new, passionate, and competent adjuncts out there who'd kill for a tenured position. He can barely verbalize his thoughts to others (out loud or through email), his grading style is illogical, and he's prone to random outbursts. Completely avoid his classes!

I agree 100% with this person's comment, "Reilly knows his stuff but he never looks at the class when he talks. He talks to the board and randomly places words here and there. His ideas are all over the place. He is a nice guy, he likes to give you a chance to do better, but I would have taken someone else for the class."

Wow! Many of these comments give Reilly a bad rap. I really liked his class, found him interesting, and LOVE how he is not afraid of real issues. You can talk to Dr. Reilly about absolutely everything. He has a lot of class, and is a charming individual! He makes you work, but has a lot to teach if you just listen. I really enjoyed his class.
