graduate 2005- writing this in 2017 - When Al and Brian left in 2004- Kline did a good job at trying to include the TV/Filmers, even though our degree was nonsense to begin with. He handled the "fire distinguisher" incident very fairly!

Dr. Kline was a real stand-out professor for me. He taught the one course that everyone in the major had for the first semester. He weeded out the weak (integral for theatre), he challenged the strong, and he facilitated the class into develop a sense of community, and set the tone for hard work and success. His class was tough, but he was great!

I graduated in 1999 and had the guy for Fundamental of Acting. He was not a very good teacher and was very narcisitic and prejudicial towards students. What I did learn was method acting should be taught in law school to future lawyers instead of students pursuing a career in the theatre. Not very good at teaching. Rating is a C-

I worked with Dr. Kline from various vantages. He was one of the best instructors I ever had. He would do anything for his students. And he was extremely intelligent. He was the necessary hardass who didnt care what others thought, even if it meant faculty members loathed him. A GOOD leader isn't necessarily a best friend (ex.: US president).

Jay Kline is a great man. He cares about his students, and is tough because he wants them to actually learn. He's a professor in the classroom, and a friend outside of it. I don't think he should have been head of tv/film, but he didn't put himself there.

Since Al and Brian left DeSales, Kline has taken over as head of the tv/film department. Kline also happens to be the head of the theater department, and the collective performing arts department. His priorities don't lie with us tv/filmers.
