Comment:

She is a hard teacher by every count. She seems to believe that the louder she yells, the better you'll understand her (Which is hard enough when she isn't yelling). She uses the book often but talks about how much she hates it. She gets off topic fairly often. Unless you are a native French speaker, I wouldn't recommend this class at all.

This class is very very intense and hard. She takes attendance but it isn't mandatory because she rewards you for coming at the end of the semester. Tests are close to impossible. She is a very subjective grader and you never know what you will make on a test. Be prepared to teach yourself...a lot

Do not take this class if you are not fluent in frech. she acts like youre doing fine and like she cares and then at least half of the class ends up with a bad grade. one person in my class got an A.

She is a rather difficult teacher. She tries to go with the book but then expects you to be as fluent in French as she. If you ask her a question, she'll either not understand you and walk away from the question or answer with some impossible-to-understand answer. Not a class if you aren't good at french and willing to teach yourself

Comment:

She is a horrible teacher who doesn't really care how her students feel about the class. The assigned homework (not graded) is hard, and her tests are significantly harder. Only if you are fluent in French will you have a chance to pass the class. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

Comment:

Hollenbeck is very friendly. All she wants to do is help. However, she is a no-nonsense teacher. She expects one hundred percent effort all the time, but as long as she can tell you're trying, she is willing to work with you. Daily practice is a must as well as attendance. Grade gets a boost for hard work and good attendance.

Extremely difficult as a teacher, makes you feel dumb for asking questions. Seems like she wants to care but is too intimidating about it. if you're good at french you'll be ok but you will be teaching yourself a lot.

When she counted to 100, I thought she was going to punch me in the face when she reached "CENT!!!!" This woman is incredibly intense and often abrasive. If you know your french well, this is probably the class for you. If you are like me and don't get the language very easily, stay the &^%$ away. It's not worth it and you WILL make a D or worse.

Run far, far away! She is not helpful at all if you ask her a question, doesn't teach (parrot back what she says to you), treats everyone like a complete moron, and her dialect is nearly impossible to understand. Hold on to your textbook for dear life because it's the only chance you have, although she tends to disagree with it... And go to class!

This woman was mean to us throughout this entire class. I don't think she cares about anything at all. I hated coming to class and just couldn't understand her either in French or English. I'll never take French again.

I had 101% average in French through high school, but had to drop this college intro. class because I was so lost! Professor's accent makes her very difficult to understand, and it felt like we were moving too fast. Also the classroom was packed and just did not feel like a learning-friendly environment.

She challenges you. She expects you to know what you're doing. She wiill call on you to answer something in French. Her tests ask you mainly about the exceptions so KNOW THE EXCEPTIONS. She's really quite nice if you are too and if she thinks you're trying to learn, she doesn't like slackers. Expect her to be blunt, she's french.

Very intimidating teacher. She did not teach much, studetns are forced to do a lot of independent work in order to pass. She expects you there every class and to have done your work. Very hard for anyone not even slightly prepared. Requires a lot of work.

This class is mentally exhausting every time. She is very intimidating and will call you out in front of the whole class to repeat things over and over. Even if you were good at French in highschool, you'll still struggle a LOT in Mme. Hollenbeck's 2005.

awesome professor. very passionate about what she teaches, she's by far the best in the french department. she's quite charming and extremely intelligent, it may take a little time to get used to her. give her a chance, you'll love her.

yes, killer hard tests. you really have to work in this class. so, if you don't feel like being a responsible student who has to learn the material mostly on your own... don't take it! if you're up for a challenge, go for it! she's pretty funny, a bit intimidating though.
