This professor gives you all the tools to succeed in class, it may require studying on your end though. This website's criteria for grading him as a professor is falling short. If you want to learn about Africa this is the professor you want. He always allows students to finish the tests and gives ample review prior to the tests. He expects respect

I learned a lot from Dr. Gwako. His teaching methods, while somewhat unique, are very effective. Students have to work for their grade,but he gives you all the tools needed to be successful. His lectures are always interesting and sometimes funny,although his sense of humor can be a bit "out there". I thoroughly enjoyed this class,and recommend it.

This guy is one of the worst instructor's that i've ever had. very rude, unprofessional, and I'm not sure why he's still there. Guilford's reputation is at risk with professor's on staff as Gwako. Avoid him if possible.

He won't answer your questions directly and switches the topic in order to evade having to deal with whatever it is you are asking. He's also somewhat forgetful, and can be militant. If you disagree with him he will not listen to what you have to say, but will block himself off and write you off as not understanding the topic.

He's not a bad guy in person, and not particularly a bad professor, but I'd never take a class with him again. He's really specific about how things are done on tests and papers, and he assigns a lot of group work which I hate. He does bully students who he feels aren't living up to his expectations. Take a class with him if you have time for it.

I WAS very excited about this course BEFORE actualy taking it. I'm thankful it was only 4.5 weeks instead of 13 or I would have dropped. He is not only RUDE to his students, but MEAN as well. It's like he never grew up and is still the BULLY that likes to pick on the "weak" (those w/out power) and he excuses his behavior by saying he's teaching.

Laban is an awesome teacher...you just have to learn his teaching style. It is not easy for all but once you figure him out, he is fun. It all depends how much in depth you want to think and if you are willing to take a risk and ask questions or disagree with him. He's been a very effective teacher for me.

He's a very tough guy in general. He's a good teacher once you get used to his accent and I have found his classes completely interesting. If you pay attention and show up you'll be fine. and don't ever admit that you haven't done the reading!!

can be offensive at times, repeats himself a lot, lots of work, timing on assignments isn't so great (put the final paper due on the same week we had to read an entire book), isn't afraid to talk about taboo things-- FGM, for example. makes you do a lot of the work; won't help you a lot

the most important thing to understand bout laban is his sense of humor is pitch-black dark. he pushes students and responds when they push back, as long as comments/opinions are well thought out.his tests will kill you with their picky little details, but overall youll learn alot from his " crazy african mind" ( a favorite laban-ism of mine)

Easy teacher, easy class. He is hard to understand, and you may not know all the info, but the grading is easy. Just dont miss class and pay attention and you will get a B. He is a peacker head though, and very stubborn and has a big ego. Funny as hell.

Laban is a **** and an awful professor. Don't speak up in class discussions if you don't agree with what he is saying. If you take good notes you'll do fine on tests but the easy grade is not worth enduring such a horrendous professor.
