Comment:
I took Slavery in American Fiction with Prof Cassuto, and I don't know whether I liked his class less, or the reading materials. Do NOT take a Graduate English class in a topic you are not THOROUGHLY EXCITED to DEVOUR. It will be your bane. I felt like the class was taught too much like a history class, and we lost focus on the texts themselves.

Professor Cassuto was a nice enough guy, but he was a really tough grader and could be really short with students sometimes. The class itself was interesting, but the fact that he was such a tough grader when we had so few things that we were graded on, it made things really stressful.

Comment:
This guy definitely has a superiority complex and a habit of interrupting and explaining material that other people are reporting on to the class. He also talks condescendingly to basically everyone and introduces information that has little to no relevance to the class. Tough grader for no reason even when after giving suggestions.

This man changed my life. He is one of the few professors who truly teaches you how to think, not what to think. His readings are FASCINATING. I actually LOOKED FORWARD to doing my homework. He will push you, so don't expect to BS your way through his class. Brilliant, passionate, caring--one of the best profs at Fordham, hands down. TAKE HIM.

Comment:
Professor Cassuto is condescending, snide and indirectly rude to his students. His grading system makes no sense and his workload is obscene. Every paper he grades is followed with a smug commentary that is peppered with ridiculous vocabulary. The only people that like him are the ones that buy into his egocentric spiel. He is not a good teacher.

The workload is ridiculous and his grading system is completely inconsistent so you have no idea what your grade is in the class. Extremely boring material. The class basically made my first semester hell. Dont take him class unless you want to devote your life to his class.

The best English teacher at Fordham. He is a wonderful - but demanding teacher. He is understanding if you have issues and is easy to talk to. If you want to learn to be a better writer, take him. He is a professional writer also.

Great teacher--take a class with him if you get a chance. Spends a lot of time helping students with writing--was one of the best things about being an English major at Fordham.
