I like her a lot, and her lectures are very clear and informative. She's very responsive to emails and questions, which I especially appreciated as an online student. Like other people said, the main issue with this class is the extreme amounts of memorization. It's useful to an extent, but be prepared to memorize a LOT of pathways.

Comment:
She means well. She is interested in teaching and tries to teach well. Unfortunately, the class is almost entirely memorization, and requires very little actual understanding of material. It would be a better class if it focused more on understanding and making connections between pathways than just memorizing structures and enzyme names.

Comment:
Her lectures are very boring to sit through, but you need to attend to know what will be tested. The tests are almost exclusively memorizing every structure in tons of pathways in the body. The rest is memorizing the regulation of those pathways. It would be much more useful if she taught for, and tested for understanding.

The memorization of structures is really not useful. Instead of spending my time studying the particulars of the pathways, I sepnt my time memorizing structures. Good teacher in terms of ocncepts, but not so good with exams and asking for minute details that do not matter. If I want to know the structures of the pathway I'll open a book someday.

was not helpful with questions. There was too much memorization instead of focusing on the purpose of the pathways.

Obviously a brilliant professor, although Dr. Lowe-Krentz's class was a bit over the top. There's an impressive amount of material covered but she expects all the minute details to be spewed out for exams. I think her approach could be shifted to include some details, but focus on pathway interactions and the global picture and implications.

Comment:
Lowe-Krentz is an extremely kind person, but not a very good teacher. This year, she posted her power point slides online, so class was essentially pointless- the slides highlighted what she wanted to focus on in the text, but typically the text was better at explaining

I'm now a medical student, who just finished Medical Biochemistry. Dr. LK taught us even more than we needed to know in med school, and taught it so well that I barely had to study it again! She's great. (the 8A lecture is a real killer though)

Biochem II is a course that is innately hard with extreme amounts of info and memorization though Dr. LK does her best to help you to succeed. With research she offers up a lot of her time, support, and encouragement, and really cares about her students.
