Comment:

Urry was a great biology teacher. It was awesome having someone who understood the subject so well (she also edited our textbook, which meant reading was very consistent with lectures and test material). Her standards are very clear and she's super accessible to students for questions and out of class meetings. I highly recommend her!!

I personally found Dr. Urry to be an amazing professor. The material is not the easiest but she expects you work outside of class so that you get the material--it's college so she expects college work. But if you work hard, ask the right questions, and try to think openly, the class is amazing. She wants people to get the material.

Rude & mean. I'm not a fan of her & wasn't surprised on how she was in class. I'm a bio major & she kept telling me to dropout bc I wasn't doing well in her class. But I am still a bio major despite taking this class with her. Don't let her words get to you, if you have to stay in the class ask the TAs or your friends for help.

A bully and horrible professor. Expects us to be experts. Can't do anything about it since she is the head. I recommend taking the class elsewhere. I retook the class at a different college and learned twice as much material and a lot of the material I learned was being taught in upper division courses at Mills. If you love bio take it elsewhere.

I felt insulted and stupid when taking the class. I tried talking to her one time and went back to my room crying and angry. I don't care if she helped write the biology book, I am very disappointed that Mills hired her.

If we get confused on a topic and go to office hrs, she'll make you feel stupid. She very intelligent and expects everyone to know the material. She's strict and sometimes insulting. Lets say that I wanted to major in bio, but no longer am.

Really really smart, therefore assumes everyone should already know the material, and gets upset if you do not understand a concept. I thought Bio 001 would be an easier class, but so far is it the hardest one at Mills to date. She is the hardest grader I have ever come across, never got above a C on her tests.

Could be harsh, but also was very helpful to me. Respects different learning styles, as long as students have thought through their learning styles. Respects that one student's critical learning tool can be another student's busywork.

Dr. Urry's grading policies are truely unfair. She asks very open-ended questions on her midterm, but expects very specific answers. She will also ding you for really stupid things. We can't do anything about because she is the department head.
