Comment:

Prof. Mattson is actually pretty great, especially if you're a freshman taking the class. If you take notes in class, read the textbook and take notes from the book (like vocab), it won't be too difficult. There's also an extra credit that'll boost up your grade. Lab is pretty simple also. Overall an easy class.

Comment:

The tests are really hard and if you don't take notes in class you won't be getting a lot of the material that is on the tests. The labs were graded very hard but there was a 10% extra credit report that saves the grade. Wouldn't recommend.

Comment:

Dr. Mattson's a pretty entertaining teacher. He's not mean, not necessarily nice either. Just teaches the class pretty objectively with some added humor (you know the type). His tests are sort of tough and he expects too much reading (I just didn't end up doing it). The project's much easier than it sounds at first. I'd recommend overall.

Hes a good professor but I think he expects too much reading in too little time. The final includes around 8-9 chapters which is about 300 pages. I was not able to understand and memorize that much but he gives a crazy extra credit that can boost your grade up a full letter. DO IT.

Professor Mattson is a great professor! He is hilarious and is a very animated lecturer. He makes class interesting and very easy to follow along. If you read the textbook and make outlines of each chapter you will do great in his class. Really knows his stuff and is great at teaching. My favorite professor at Fordham so far!

Not a psych major, but I found him to thoroughly knowledgeable and a hilarious lecturer (class size about 25 people). VERY into the Grateful Dead! Material was explained well in class, but HW notes are required to passing. Beware the labs, his TAs often don't explain a lot, and my lab grades were poor at first, but it gets better. Comment:

Don't take this professor for lab courses, i.e. cognition, memory labs. These are not his forte. He is very hard to follow and moves very quickly through a lot of some of the more difficult psychology courses. The readings are boring and the class is boring. The lab TA's don't make any helpful contribution to understanding material.

PROFESSOR MATTSON! I can't imagine taking Psychology with anyone else. The material is exciting. He utilizes different media to teach it. If it wasn't for his terrible taste in Lab TA's, it would have been a perfect experience. The redhead who did the labs when I took the class was awful, like a ginger Rasputin.

Ihad him for Memory during the spr 06 sem and he was the hardest professor. I think b/c he knew he wasn't going to be here for the fall 06 sem he didn't care about how he taught his class or about his students. the class was hard and impossible. Plus if u weren't a kiss up he was really unapproachable. Avoid Mattson!!!!

wow- what a course!! Lots of work, and if he is grading your labs, do not expect higher then an 85%. BUT... you learn a lot, and for us psyc majors, the knowledge we received will carry us a long way (its only one stressfull semister!!)

I agree with the first rater's comment; tough but fair. He has a strict grading policy, if you have like an 89.75, he won't round up, you'll get the B+. But, he's funny and easy going...if you put in the effort, your grade will show it.
