Michael Schilling was hands down one of the best professors I've ever had the honor of having. The only people in my class who didn't like him, were the ones who came to class unprepared and wanted to blame anyone but themselves. Great person, great teacher, great class. 100% recommend!

TERRIBLE TEACHER. His form of teaching was literally reading the first line and bold words out of each paragraph of the book during class. The class is a breeze, I probably missed 1/3 of the classes and still got an A, but he teaches you nothing. He can't even work the internet! Take anyone else if you want to learn something!

This is BY FAR the worst professor I've ever had. He doesn't prepare for class at all! He doesn't know the subject well, he scans the chapter DURING class, and then kinda sums up what the chapter said - and that's his lecture! He doesn't use powerpoints, and barely lectures enough to take notes. Horrible teacher- will never prepare me for other JRN

Not too bad of a teacher, he knows his stuff. Tests can be difficult because he doesn't do study guides, and half the questions are short answer. Your best bet is to just read the chapters. News quizzes were easy as long as you read the paper that day. Not the most exciting class or teacher, but not terrible either.

I recommend him completely! I don't understand why people give him such bad ratings! I learned a lot and his in-class exercises really help you understand the chapters. Great professor! :)

I don't understand why everyone rates him so badly! He's not the most interesting guy, but the class was really great. His tests are amazingly easy! I got a 100% first test. The assignments are relevant, and reasonable. And he's a pretty nice guy with dry humor. Give this class a chance...seriously. It's not bad at ALL!

Eveyone complains way too much. The only complaint I may have is that he doesn't hide that he's a liberal. I have no problem with this class at all. It was really easy and intersting. We talked about relevant news and just did in class writing assignments. The test are really easy...I got a 99% on my first one! Take Michael if you can. Great class.

He doesn't really teach all that much. He pretty much just reads bits and pieces out of the book during lecture. Tests were a little hard because you're not sure what to study. The class was dry and boring to me.

To put it simply, it seems like Schilling simply doesn't want to teach as much as I didn't want to take that class. He has worked in the realm of politics and I believe he should have stayed out there instead of teaching it.

I really like him-he is fair and does not assign a lot of homework. The tests are easy and all multiple choice right from the bold words and chapters in the book. I am not interested in the material, but it isnt b/c he is a bad teacher..he's a really nice guy and everyone should take him!

he rambles on about the news and you get nothing accomplished in class...it is maily about writing so if you like to write take the class. some quizzes are difficult while others are hard and his tests are fairly easty for the most part as long as you read the chapters out of the book and study what he tells you to study!

The news quizes are ridiculously hard sometimes and ridculously easy sometimes. When he does teach he just reads right out of the book. He had some interesting stories, but wasn't all that clear on what was expected of the students. Most of the time he would just get off on a tangent.

Yikes- I would not recommend him as an instructor, though he is definitely qualified by experience and is interesting to talk to. His news quizzes are totally unreasonable- impossible to know what he's going to include in ten questions every 2-3 weeks.

Schilling just plain SUCKS. he is absolutely the worst teacher if that's even what you want to call him. He is never organized and just makes up stupid stuff to get through the whole period. His tests are made up of 100 difficult questions.
