Stephen cares so much about his students. He wants everyone to do well in the class. You start out each day with everyone explaining how they are doing, which is a lot more fun than it sounds. The whole class is based around one book (Ulysses) and arguing about your interpretations of the book. A lot of reading, but definitely worth it

He cares so much about his students' success and how much they learn! If you make an effort in his classes, you will succeed. Incredibly passionate about teaching and genuinely interested in your life. Never wanted to miss a class because the discussion was amazing and actually related to everyday problems and life. 10/10. Only textbook was $4.

Amazing class!!! Seminar style, really laid back. Stephen loves debate, so it is a really good place to voice your opinion. You must go to class, but you will want to. His class was a bright spot in my otherwise stressful semester -- highly recommend him.

Stephen is my favorite professor at MSU so far! This was a small seminar style class (I took it with honors though) and I loved how close my classmates and I all got within one semester. Grading includes 6 short papers throughout the semester and weekly quizzes so pretty easy. My main suggestion is to get involved in class discussion.

I was extremely disappointed with this class. Really doesn't line up much with the actual course title. Drawn out classes that really have no relevance most of the time. He definitely favors females over males. Overall, I was just really underwhelmed.

Stephen is a great guy and a deep thinker. The class is an "easy A" if you show up and are willing to speak, but what you'll get out of the class is not so much a grade as a semester of thinking (and new friendships with classmates!). Laid back seminar style. Stephen LOVES students debating. Some discussions get eccentric but are thought-provoking.

Stephen (he'll insist you call him that) was an amazing professor. His class is all about discussion and forming logical arguments and having an intellectual dialogue. If you speak up, you'll quickly become a favorite. 95% of your grade in class is simply participationcompletion, with extra points given for "thought-provoking work".

Dr. Trobisch is a wonderful person; he legitimately cares about his students and wants them to participate in class. Most of the class is open discussion, and he'll love you if you aren't afraid to speak up. My class was a quiet bunch, so it was awkward at times. Don't be afraid to argue in class--he loves it! Very casual seminar-style class.

I LOVED this class and I loved how Stephen taught it. If I could take him again, I would! While there is some reading, mostly the class is an open discussion. Be prepared to actually have to think in his class.

Easy class but not because he gives you answers or anything like that. This class was all about your thoughts on what you read. We were even encouraged to argue with students until common ground was met. Psychologically challenging. BEST CLASS I'VE EVER TAKEN!

Incredible professor, had him for first semester. He's engaging, thoughtful, and he almost makes things too easy. You can cruise through it or actually get involved and you'll get more out of it then you would have thought.

His class is based solely on dicussion and hardly any work. All work is graded on completion for 95% and extra points are given for "thought-provoking" work. Class can be boring, but a very easy A if you do the little work required.

Very good professor. He always kept class interesting and taught in a very liberal way. Class was made up of discussions on th material rather than assignments. Would recommend him to anyone interested in a thought provoking class without too much pressure.

I took his honors classical mythology class and it was quite the joke. Super easy! You really don't have to show up, but it's in your best interests to do so. He hates grading so he just gives "credit" for everything (aka 95%). If you really want to learn something don't take this class, if you want an easy A, take it.

Stephen is pretty laid back and into provoking thought and discussion. He conducts class in socractic forum style. Grades are based on completion rather than correctness. I was bored from time to time but would recommend his class for those interested in an easier A and an interesting approach to mythology.
