Dr. Lelwica is THE best professor I've had on campus. She's rather difficult, but incredibly fair, and always willing to help. She genuinely cares about her students, and is INCREDIBLY knowledgeable about the subject matter. I have her at 8am for Women in Religious History but it doesn't even matter because it's an incredible course.

I didn't think she was a hard grader but her tests were tough! We had a pop quiz every week based on our readings (which were easy!)I never had enough time to do all of the readings and I still got almost 100% on every one! We also had a couple 1pg papers (also easy) and then one big research project.. (required for REL 100). Not too bad!

Comment:

Engaged Buddhism is fantastic. I learned a ton and the meditation section of the class was probably the best part. A lot of the ideas were repeated quite a bit, so after a while it got to be a bit boring. It's a lot of reading and she grades SUPER hard on papers, so be careful with that. I would totally recommend her. She's fantastic.

There's a lot of negative reviews, but I LOVED her. I took the Engaged Buddhism Inquiry from her and it was wonderful. She can be a difficult grader, but she is always open to helping. And she's very aproachable and easy to talk to. She made the class very enjoyable, with a relaxed atmosphere.

DO NOT PICK HER. She is ridiculously tough- you think I'm joking, but I'm not. Lots of discussion, then throws out huge papers and gives you poor grades no matter what you write. If you have a critical question, her answer: "that's a good question..." Bottom line: take anyone else because you have to work A LOT and are given nothing in return.

Wonderful professor! I was very appreciative that she tried her hardest to respect every students personal beliefs. Very engaging discussions. She is very intelligent and her tests are very straightforward. Just do the readings and come to class. I would definitely recommend her!

I loved professor Lelwica. She was engaging, encouraged discussion, and was open for all sorts of ideas. Her class was one of my most enjoyable, and much more engaging than I expected Rel 100 to be. Tests are difficult because of phrasing and such, but classes and lectures were fun to attend

I was by far the star of that class. I was certainly the only one doing the reading every day. I may have been late a few times and missed 3 times but she takes that stuff way too far. She is an intellectual but is also **** against men. She was a lot tougher on me for being smart than some of the girls who were in the class

This was by far my favorite class, and she's one of my favorite profs. Her classes are interesting, and she's very open to students' ideas and opinions (and trust me, I held many opposing opinions to her!) There's a lot of hard work, so it's not a class for slackers. But if you do the work, work hard, and pay attention, you should do fine.

She is a great teacher, and a great person. This class was a wonderful experience - full of dicussion and exploration. I definitely recommend her. She is very busy and will have you set high academic goals but it is worth it. She is wonderful.

this is the best class i have ever taken. completely shifted my perspective on life, was informative on topics of interest to me (zen buddhism, specifically) and encouraged student expression. dr. lelwica is an immensely smart and wise woman who really wants to help her students expand their minds. aikido "lab" is also awesome.
