Comment:

I had Dr. Somerick for many classes and she was very good, helpful and really gave sound advice. She advised me on an internship that eventually led to the direction I would take my career. She also, rightly so, advised me agains a Masters degree. She was 100% right. I didn't need it. Just getting out into the field was all I needed.

Comment:

Dr. Somerick challenged me to become my best. Yes, she was tough, challenging and critical but that is just what we need as students. When I work I hear her words challenging me to give my best, check my work and think about the impact my words have on my reputation, my employer and my future success.

Comment:

People seem to misinterpret Dr. Somerick. She works hard for her students. I think she is given too much work to do. It's not her fault the School of Comm. can't improve the PR program. She is not that difficult, just do your work and learn from what she says. If she criticizes, she is trying to motivate you, trust me. Take her over Ritchey.

She is only helpful if you can do something for her. When I graduated, she asked me to keep in contact and she would help me with "career" contacts. She never returned any phone calls at all! She grades based on "petty" things!

I took a class from her in 1996 and she was terrible then! How is it that she is still teaching?! All of the comments on here are negative. I have yet to meet one person that has taken a class from her and has had something positive to say. Avoid her as a teacher!

she made me cry after a "conference" with her. she is so hard and horrible! she personal life affects her teachinig and believe me she is NOT better than you. she will probably mention that she is in some way other another at least 17 times per class. UGH - she is horrible. and she made me CRY!! :(

i had her for two classes in one semester. i thought i would kill myself!! she is HORRIBLE!! i cant even describe her. she wears HUGE classes too! she is so far out there and not up to date what-so-ever. thinks she is better than you and will mention how great she is at least 2 per class. STAY AWAY FROM HER!! she is horrible and needs to be fired. who invented the idea of tenure?!?!?

She is the most unwelcoming, rude, insensitive woman i have ever met. She has no idea how to communicate and should not be teaching. I am amazed that she is in the PR profession, oh thats right shes not shes teaching and doing a crappy, crappy job at that. Oh never take an internship through her!

It seems as if Dr. Somerick has personal problems that affect her professionally. She cannot present materials or ideas clearly, but expects students to understand exactly what it is she's talking about. Honestly, I feel sorry for her, but I'm ashamed of the university's judgement on keeping her.
