The only thing I didnt enjoy about her class was the pop quizzes. But they werent hard, just unplanned. Participation is not only beneficial, it is REQUIRED. She goes around the classroom to make sure everyone is signing correctly. Shes also hilarious- ASL is expressive and she is VERY expressive & fun to watch! One of my favorite classes ever

Lori is by far one of the best teachers I've had at Akron. She will NOT let you be lazy though, so come to class prepared and ready to learn. You have to be ready to learn. She is the most respectful and knowledgeable teacher you could ask for.

Lori moves very quickly. She also does not care about excused absences. I missed class and a had a doctors note and had to take a pop quiz on things I never learned. i do not recommend taking her.

Lori is a wonderfully enthusiastic teacher who you will learn a lot from. She goes at a nice pace, making sure everyone is caught up during the lessons. However, if you miss class it is hard to catch up because we learned so much every time. She gives you good prep time for tests, but has a few pop quizzes once in a while. Please take her class!

She is very thorough with her lectures so I wouldnt miss one. She tries to make sure everyone in the class understands each sign before she moves on to a new one. Very helpful and I would highly recommend her.

Lori Is not the Best ASL instructor. She moves wayy to fast through material. My friends in ASL 2 who had a different instructor for their first ASL 1 class, said she is moving through more material than they did! I am doing poorly because there is pop quizzes, and she does not have exam reviews. You are expected to participat in class and memorize

Lori was a wonderful instructor. I took ASL 1 as a summer course and was nervous about the pace, going into the class. Lori moved at a nice pace and wouldn't move on until everybody in the class understood the concept. I would absolutely take her again and most likely will try to.

Lori was absolutely delightful. She is fun, goofy (sign language IS an expressive language and she can be very comical at times!), and kind of adorable! She is very passionate about the deaf community. You do not really use the book much, other than reading like 2-3 pages but you can use it to reference back to signs. You do not NEED the DVD.

Lori is a great teacher. It really surprised me that she didn't talk at all until 4 weeks into the semester which was really hard because she just taught through gestures and made you write your questions on the board. She is very picky and will call you out if you have a bad attitude. PARTICIPATE! It is a huge portion of your grade.

Comment:
Lori is a very interesting teacher. She expects a lot of ASL I students. She finger spells super fast, which is very confusing and makes it hard to understand her. Instead of using her voice to get the classes attention, she clicks her rings on the table, which gets annoying after a while. She hates when people walk in late to class.

Lori is the best professor I have ever had. She is an outstanding teacher and makes sure that you are well prepared for the tests and quizzes. If you attend class everyday you will learn the language very well. She is so awesome! If you have her you are so lucky!!

She expects a lot out of the class, but she is willing to work with students until they understand. She won't just let people slide by without the effort, but she really does make it easy to understand ASL

Lori is good at what she knows; however, she expects way to much for an introductory class. I attended everyday, participated, and attempted everything she assigned but was not as fluent as others in my class and she failed me. I don't recommend her, unless you already have a background in basic signing.

Lori is very passionate about ASL but in ASL 4 she still focused a lot on basic grammar. If you want to be most comfortable signing conversationally- try to take a Deaf professor for higher level Sign classes- you learn so much more. Most of Lori's quizzes are very reasonable but occasionally a test will be unvbelievably specific.

Wonderful Wonderful Professor. She is 100% passionate about her job. She wants her students to be successful and she desires them to WANT to learn ASL, not just take it for a foreign language credit. She is crystal clear with her teaching and she encourages individuals to think for themselves. 110% recommended!!

Lori really helped all of us with our signing. She is a wonderful professor who truly wants everyone to succeed in sign language. She may be a little tougher than other sign teachers, but in her class you will really learn the language. She is passionate about Deaf culture and I recommend her to anyone who wants to learn sign language.

Lori was very helpful and she made the class fun. It was a summer class and she helped the older students understand but she kept going at a steady pace. Tests are harder but she reviews everything before the test. "Deaf Like Me" was mandatory for us and know details but other than that shes a great teacher and i would recommend her (level 1)!
