Comment:

He discussed hitting on students and talked about his genitals, but he's the only cognitive psychologist on campus. Everyone got an A in class because he did not even read our final papers (grades were up within an hour of us handing them in). Not worth the easy A, which I never thought I'd say.

Comment:

Ackles is probably my favorite human on the planet. This class was difficult but he genuinely wants his students to succeed so he will give help and advice when asked for it. Tests were hard and choosing a paper topic was difficult but he is very clear on expectations so the paper wasn't difficult to construct. Genuine, hilarious, so intelligent.

One of the best professors I ever had. The text he assigned was difficult to process at times, but I am so grateful to have had him as a teacher.

Comment:

I've had Ackles for three different classes. He is an awesome teacher and an honor to have! Tests are a little tough, but he gives you a lot of extra points to boost your test grades. Yea we went off topic during class, but appreciate a teacher who makes you laugh than one who makes you want to sleep. I recommend him over any teacher!!

Comment:

Ackles is the best. Hilarious (he tends to push the limit a lot) & a very interesting guy. Classes are spoken lecture & you take notes. Quizzes & CogLabs are super easy, but the tests definitely require studying. He is a tough grader on the research experiment but the major changed so no future students will have to worry about that in this class.

A real swell guy outside of class, inside of class is like an adventure not taken seriously. You'll have fun in his class, it isn't boring, and his tests aren't the easiest. Just study, OK? Sound's cliche but, its true. He's a good professor to take overall, but you'll have to work a bit for your grade. I'd recommend him over the other quacks.

Is a great person to talk with and have fun but I had to teach myself everything. He doesn't take attendance which I loved because we didn't learn anything in class at all. Quiz every week with 3 tests. All multiple choice

I love Dr. Ackles, I've had him for two semesters, and I'm taking him again for the third time. He loves to joke around and waste class time so you'll need to read on your own. Spend time studying! His exams are hard! Our final was optional if you were happy with your grade, so I had 2 exams and a term paper.

He talks a lot about irrelevant topics during class. He doesen't believe in power points so talks about random topics in class, and because of that it feels like he's all over the place. He didn't respond to my email and didn't show up one day to an 8am class.

Dr. Ackles loves teaching psych and makes it so much fun. Probably my favorite teacher at Elmhurst because he tells the best stories during class. Sometimes he wastes a lot of class time but I didn't mind because I spent time studying on my own. Hard grader for the research paper, and you MUST participate in class.

There is no way he makes psychology easier. Ackles is hilarious and such a nice guy. He clearly knows what he is teaching but wastes all of class time talking about irrelevant topics. His tests use exact questions from the back of the chapters (gives you 9 you pick 5 to do) but keep in mind you have to teach yourself all of the answers; its doable

If you have a sense of humor and can take a joke but still work hard you will love him. I had him a few years ago and he's been the only teacher I actually ENJOYED being in their class. Good balance between lectures and fun. You're not allowed to say "I don't know" which gets quite entertaining : ) Miss his classes.

He's definitely entertaining, but wastes a LOT of class time telling funny stories and harassing the class. He's a very likeable person. Here's how to study: Make an outline of the chapter's main points to bring with you to class and take notes on, then make flashcards from that. Lots of material from text not on the tests, but extra credit.

Dr. Ackles is not an easy teacher but you learn so many interesting things that it doesn't really matter. His tests are difficult but he will give you "buzz words" to guide you on how to study. If you even want to pass any of his class you must open your book!! If you truly read the book you will be just fine. And theres a lot of extra credit :)

Dr. Ackles is one of the best professors I'm come across at Elmhurst. I made him my advisor right after I took his class. He likes to connect with students on a personal level and really does want them to succeed. Getting an A in his class isn't easy, but it can be done if you put in the time.
