WOW this class was hard. You basically have to teach yourself. She has office hours and is willing to help but not good at it. She is a VERY picky grader... don't expect much partial credit. For an introductory level Latin class, I was really disappointed and frustrated most of the time. If you want an A at ALL... take someone else.

Dr. Harrison is a very nice lady, and she's one of the most knowledgeable people that you'll ever meet. I've had her for four classes, and have always found that one can learn very well from her if one -asks questions-! She cares very much about your success, and once you find out what she expects, she's not that hard, but she is a tough grader.

Professor Harrison is a very nice lady who is willing to help, but her teaching is very unorganized. She may be better as an upper level latin professor, but taking her class as my introductory class confused me and its causing problems for me now in my second semester of latin. I don't recommend her class as an introduction to language.

Class time is unorganized and the homework was not helpful for me because I didn't know what was going on to start. She expects you to teach yourself before class. Really nice lady though. Personally, I can't learn from an unorganized teacher, but if that's not a problem take her because she is nice and will attempt to help you. NOT my favorite.

Dr. Harrison is a good lady who knows a ton about latin. Her classes are hard though because her teaching style is unorganized. Expect to spend a lot of time studying and with the tutors (especially for the every friday quizzes).

Dr. Harrison is a great professor. She really loves what she teaches, which is great to have in a professor. For all of you who are scared to actually work for you education, you shouldn't take her, though. She expects you to know your stuff, so you have to actually do the homework and study the vocabulary, or you won't do well. I learned a lot!

Very knowledgeable, but I basically never knew what was going on. I missed a handful of assignments because she almost secretly posts them on Blackboard. All in all, she's EXTREMELY nice. I wish she wasn't so dull and unorganized because I'd take her again in that crazy world.

If you really want to learn Latin, take her! She has the rep as the hardest Latin prof, but is truly THE BEST for those serious about Latin. Very systematic. Learn everything she tells you and it WILL pay off when you face real, hard Latin. PostClasLATN was actually really fun. Small, personal class. Variety of authors across several disciplines.:)

Harrison is quirky, but a lot of fun. She finds connections that make learning Latin much easier. Test/quizzes all follow the same format, and they are not too bad if you study a bit. Attendance is important and you learn a lot of Roman culture, which makes learning the language much more fun. I would stronly recommend Harrison to anybody in Latin!

I had Prof. Harrison for both LATN 150 & 250. Neither time I took her was by choice. She is an amazingly nice person, but she is reminiscent of Pat from SNL because of her mannerisms and the noises that she makes, the charm of which wears off rather early in the course. She is probably the most versed living person in Latin, but cannot teach it.

Dr. Harrison is great and super nice! I've had all the Latin professors now, and she is AMAZING. Might be hard for non-classics majors, but is great for those genuinely interested. She'll find patterns in the language that no one else can. If you are interested in Latin, and willing to do the work, she's actually easy. And you'll learn a lot.

While she is obviously incredibly knowledgable about all things Greek and Roman, she is not the most organized professor in the world. Be prepared to work a lot outside of class for both the midterm and the final.

She is really goofy, but that kinda helped when things got really boring. She really loves what she teaches. Her teaching style is choppy and she seems disoriented at first. But after a while you get the hang of it and if you ask questions she loves to answer them. I asked a few questions in class and via email, never once went to a tutor. Got a B.

Prof. Harrison is a little...eccentric. And she is hard. But would it really be worth it were her class easy? She expects a lot, but gives a lot in return and you leave that class knowing that you really learned Latin. I liked her, she's kooky and fun. But anyone not willing to work A LOT should NOT take her because LEARNING IS WORK.

Very knowledgeable, but I wouldn't recommend for 1st year Latin students unless you're prepared to dedicate lots of time to studying outside class, and going to a tutor. This teacher's very nice, and helpful, and knows her stuff, and if you're in an upper level Latin class she might actually be your best bet.

It's obvious she likes Latin. I would like Latin, too, if she taught it well. She is a very nice person, but her teaching style doesn't work well for me--it seems very choppy and discontinuous. She is a bit odd and assigns a lot of homework, but her tests are rather easy for a well-prepared student.

She is just what everyone has said--goofy! She likes Latin and is very knowledgable about it--but doesn't teach it well. She just asks questions and doesn't say why. Also gives tons of homework, about a page of assignments per class period. I had to drop the class because it was too hard.

Very, very boring teacher. You can tell she absolutely loves the material, but she's incredibly eccentric and goofy and therefore she can't relate well to her students. If you need help, she's always willing, but she gives at least 1 hour of homework a class, sometimes 2.

everything everyone has said so far is true. she is incredibly nice and rather enthusiastic about what she teaches, she just doesn't teach it well or in an interesting manner. She was very helpful when i fell behind this semester though.
