He's not that bad, you just have to buckle down and try to learn the material. The key for him is to properly formulate questions using the text. He's exceptionally clever so he doesn't need to see it to know exactly what you are referring to. Maybe I'm just smarter than the rest of you.

Richard Albares is one of the most condescending people I've ever met. This class is suppose to be an intro class and he is 10x more difficult than it should be. Do not take this class or this professor. Trust me.

Avoid at all costs. I was warned and thought I could tough it out. Not worth it at all. He's very rude and condescending even for little questions. His tests are incredibly difficult and he expects so much more than the 100 level class it is. Feel free to ask him for help but it won't do much. Worst professor Ive ever had

He has the most boring lectures and does not care at all if the students understand anything. If you ask a question in class, he will begin with a partial answer, and then move on to some personal anecdote with no connection or talk about his education at UC-Berkeley. "Both responses are correct, but I was only looking for the one." -R. Albares.

Very condescending, rude, and disrespectful. Expects his students to be working at a graduate level, but doesn't help when you need it. Pseudo-intellect, thinks he is a lot smarter than he really is. Avoid at all costs.

An extremely smart and sophisticated man. Probably not the best person to teach undergraduate sociology. I can see why everyone despises him so much. Yet, you can learn a lot if you pay attention in class. Ideally suited for anyone who likes a serious challenge and or is interested in philosophy and history.

study a lot for this class or you will fail. I studied for over 10 hours for each test and was barely able to get a C in the class. This class is insane for an intro course. He is too smart for his own good and expects you to learn everything overnight. He is also extremely condescending which discourages anyone in the class from participating.

Really hard to comprehend what he is saying most of the time, is really tough. Read everything he gives you and go to class everday or you will miss something important. Study like your life depends on it or you will not succed.

He is one that will make you feel stupid if you answer the question wrong. Everyone in my class disliked him greatly. He is too intelligent for his own good. Avoid his class if at all possible!

Very unclear in his lectures, does not use language appropriate for those learning sociology. He seems to forget he's teaching at a undergrad level not graduate. Quizzes are a bit intense. If possible avoid.

Very condescending and arrogant. I'm taking his class for Senior Sem, and having never taken sociology before, it's very difficult. His tests are extremely hard because the questions themselves are hard to understand. No one in our class seems to understand him very well. I would really avoid taking him.

This is one of the few - perhaps the only - class I have taken where I actually NEED to read everything and at times I think I should've read it twice. For his tests, even though I studied hard, I never understood half of his questions because of the extesive language he uses...sad I know but if you take him you better have a big vocabulary.

Extremely arrogant; it is my belief that his sole purpose in teaching intro classes is to wield power over freshman by using big words and seemingly complicated tangents to freak them out. Definitely on a power trip, and he may or may not be ****/****. Lectures are useless. At least his tests are multiple choice...
