He let you know exactly what he expected in very detailed assignment sheets. As long as you followed instructions his class was easy. We were fond of him referring to him as angry santa.

Freshmen year I had Richard for intro to communications as a gen ed class. WORST. CLASS. EVER. All the college courses I have taken so far his is the worst. First of all, the class is plain useless and I gained nothing from it. He was not a very fair grader either. I felt like there were way too many speeches throughout the semester. Complete waste

I had Richard for persuasion last year, and he was, by far, the worst professor I have had a Fox. George Fox usually has outstanding professors who care about their students and what they are teaching...Richard is clearly an unfortunate exception to that standard. I can't tell you anything I learned from this class, aside from the fact he is biased

I had Richard for a Linguistics course. I was extremely disappointed as Richard was NOT qualified to teach this course. He based most of his lessons off of the material that the class presented in our daily presentations, (which many were copied directly from Wikipedia). Very poor and bland class sessions, and he lost all of our essays we wrote.

Richard Engnell is the worse professor I have ever had in my entire experience at GFU. Such a prestigious school with outstanding record should obtain faculty up to par. This is definitely not the case with this man. He is incompetent, intolerant towards others' ideas or opinions, praises favorites while dismissing others. Horrible professor

Richard is the man. Very professional. He gives excellent feedback on speeches so you know exactly what he expects and what you need to work on. Hilarious. Also a great integration of faith and learning.

engnell's a sweet guy, a little bland at times, and a tough grader. but you appreciate him more when you realize how overly-qualified he is!

Though attendance is not always mandatory, there are quizzes for everyday that speeches are not held (unless their is overflow) and those quizzes do ad up so it would be unwise to miss too many days. Textbook usage is low because he uses it as a starting point, most of his lectures come from himself. He is also a bit crazy, but in a fun way.

Intro to Journalism was a straight forward class with clear expectations and lots of small assignments (i.e. lots of opportunity to earn points). After I graduated I took a writing job, and found the skills gained in his class were very practical and useful in the "real world." Excellent teacher w/ a funny, dry humor.

I was a student from 1993-1997. Richard Engnell was an excellent instructor as well as an excellent advisor. Does he still wear birkenstocks every single day? :)

Right out of the 60's. A personality that envies plywood. Order Java prior to attending, then kick in some No Doze if it's a lecture.

Only value to this class was in prepaing and doing public speaking. Other than that, even the terminoligy is painfully obvious. One does not neet to attend to do well, merely use common sense on testtaking days.
