Dr. Joines was great at giving feedback when critiquing essays. And hes always able to help you figure out a better way to set up your writing structure. As long as you follow the requirements for each essay youll get a good grade. Just follow the syllabus and youll be fine.

I enjoyed this class overall. Sometimes it was a little hard to understand what was expected from us in our papers. The class sessions itself were boring at times but the paper topics were interesting.

There were 4 papers that made up the whole semester it was a very fun assignment and it allowed you to discover more about yourself. He is a very caring professor and is there to help you better your writing!

Overall not a challenging class, but Prof. Joines does have a tendency to be pedantic in his lectures. It seems like he scripts them so that when he asks for participation, he is looking for the answer that will segue nicely into his next point. Grading was clear, and he expects you to bring your book to class every day, if you've read or not.

Believe the reviews! The spring semester with this professor was the worst decision ever! He will overload you with emails. Gives lectures over meaningless subjects. He's super picky with his essays, he expects you to write in his writing style instead of your own. He has high standards that are extreme for a 3000 class course.

The first part of the class was reading articles and making an annotated bibliographies. Then you ended doing a research paper. He helped you fix it. You just have to show some effort.

You never quite know what he wants from anyone. He even admitted in class one day that he doesn't even know what he wants you to do on your essays (which are some of the most confusing papers).

Dr. Joines is a philosopher at heart, and I hate philosophy. I think he's a nice guy, but I can't stand his class because all he does is talk about the "essence" of things. I'm here to learn how to properly read literature and write over it, not discuss the "thing-ness" of a book. 3 papers and participation/attendance make up your final grade.

I really hate this class, all during class time he talks about stories and then we will barely get taught on what we should be doing. instead he just asks us questions that we don't know the answers to and expects us to write a paper about it. it is more of a philosophy class than an English class and that is not what i signed up for.

To be honest, I didn't mind this class. The reading material was interesting and his essay outlines were SUPER detailed. He has optional conference days that I recommend you attend where he reads your paper and tells you what to change. Class discussion was okay. It wasn't my favorite class, but it wasn't too hard either.

This professor was the worst professor I came across this far. Not willlimg to help.. expected you to get 5 books throughout ONE semester and when it came to grading if you dont go to his office hours and his TA he wont even consider your paper to be a C paper ... After the first assignment I knew i would fail. My advice take anybody else BUT him

He is a very tough grader. I've never gotten anything below an A on any essay I've written, including some AP classes, until I took this class. He is interesting and very willing to help you; however he does come off as condescending. I wouldn't recommend this class to anyone who doesn't have at least 5 hours a week to dedicate to it.

Joines had a very interesting class and was a prof who was extremely interested in what he was teaching! His world Lit class was super long, but most of the time interesting enough that you didn't mind it. He's funny and quirky, but the class is interesting and easy to pass if you do your reading. I'd take him again!

Dr. Joines is awesome. You only need one book, depending on which book he selects to read. You will need to keep up with the reading for in class discussion. He helps you write your papers and gives great feedback if you need help with anything. I would take this class again if I could.

The first book we read was such a snore, but some of the books after were astounding. He doesn't ask for antics or crap, so don't give him any. He has a high intellect and really does want you to pass. He throws out lot of literary references and I felt like I was the only one who understood them. Take good notes and you are good to go.
