Comment:
I enjoyed Prof Pioreck's creative writing class and enjoyed getting to share my stories with everyone, as well as hearing theirs in their own voices. I was basically the only student to raise my hand in class and I'm glad I did. I learned and hopefully contributed a lot. The reading assignments were a bit unclear but not very important anyway. Good

Easiest class I've ever taken at Hofstra, How The Simpsons Saved Literature. Do the weekly assignments and well on your papers and you'll pass the class. I would definitely take this class again. Professor Pioreck is very understanding, so if you have a problem, shoot him an email.

I ended up dropping this class the fourth week of the semester. This professor constantly cancelled class, and his emails made no sense whatsoever. Everyone in the class was completely confused about what we had to do. If you want to take Creative Writing, I recommend taking it with a different professor.

Professor pioreck was very confusing and did not understand any issues his students were having. He tends to blame the student for a situation they were concerned about. Instead of helping, he explains and belittles as if the student were at fault. I didn't appreciate his teaching style.

Took the DL class. If you cannot pull an A in the class.... your fault. It's generally (subconciously) implied that you could cherry pick the necessary materials for the essays. Responds fairly quickly to email, I'd recommend him!

Prof. Pioreck is not clear about any assignments and does little to help you understand them. He never hands back assignments so no one ever knows how they stand in his class. He is rude when you try and ask questions and his "rubric" for each assignment never helps in trying to write a good paper. Do not take his class.

Great Professor, he knocks down the # of pages for the final paper. He shows movies and talks about all kinds of things and is great with encouraging class discussion. He likes you if you contribute and is willing to help you however he can. Great guy teaching a great class; what more can you ask for?

Took his distance class. Expects a huge volume of reading and film watching that just doesn't seem to have enough hours in the day to accomplish. Throws some written data at you and then just says 'go' pretty much. Uses all boiler plate thoughts that aren't complete. Would prefer some sort of recorded lecture. Unreasonable for those who have jobs..

I took Prof. Pioreck for English 161, How the Simpsons saved literature, as an online class. I misunderstood the weekly assignments and handed in many, many less then were required. I did do a very good job on the papers however. I was able to get an A in this course while on Phish tour, and for this easy A I give Dr. Pioreck a huge thumbs up!

He's a nice guy and funny in a lame sort of way, but everything has to be so...cookie-cutter. Innovation is sort of discouraged, and if you ask me, he kind of thinks the average reader is stupid. He really only accepts what he believes makes a story, and he almost wants us to be mundane.

On a person level, he is a really nice man however he can not schedule to save his life Requires students to email him dates for presenting their stories never follows it better off just going whenever. It is finals week now and he's only graded 1 story of mine. Takes forever to hand back your stories and there's always something wrong with it. :(

Terrible teacher! Write four short stories about anything and get criticized on how bad they are.Must follow his simple structure on how to write or you'll get a low grade. Don't try to be creative because he'll just find something negative to say about it.He didn't make it as a writer so now he takes his anger out on his students.

Prof. Pioreck was quite literally the worst professor I have ever had. He required us to purchase four or five books that we virtually never used, he never lectured, and returned EVERYTHING late. He was also incredibly rude if you questioned his critics. Believe me, I could go on, but the comment box has a limit. If you love writing, AVOID HIM.

He's a very good teacher, can get a little boring at times, however, he really knows the material he teaches well and if you actually try, you can learn a lot from him and get a very good grade.

I thought this would be a very interesting course since i love to write and am good at it, but its pretty boring. We were made to buy 6 books for this course and we don't read any of it. He rarely refers to the books. All we do is listen and give feedback to other classmates short stories. We don't do anything in class...basically waste of time.

Professor Pioreck was a little boring the first couple weeks of the semester and was a strict grader on the first essay, but once you got to know him his class improved significantly. He lightened up as the class progressed by showing movies and allowed more time for the essays to be due. Overall its not difficult to get an A in his class.

Pioreck is absolutely amazing. I admit, it helps if you have some sort of interest or talent in writing... but even if you don't he is extreamly helpful and really tries to give you the most constructive feedback possible. He makes me wish I was a creative writing major so I can just take his classes over and over. If you like writing, take him :)
