Comment:

Course mainly focused on supreme court cases about the violation of the 1st amendment. Personally, I really dislike history as a subject, but his way of lecturing was really hilarious. He doesn't know how to use technology so be prepared to not be in contact with him out of class, although he does provide you with his cell phone number.

Nice guy, made it very easy to participate and I didn't mind being there even though it was late. He's not your typical professor but he gets your attention. I got a lot from this class.

Great professor. I am not a fan of history and had to take this class late at night but he made it interesting and fun. Made me laugh a lot. Only thing is the assignments are not very clear and you MUST take notes.

Professor Dougherty was awesome! He used to come into class and share his drug dealer cases every night with us. He is a public defender so he talks about most of his cases that he deals with. The whole class is focused around the 1st Ammendment. All in all great guy who is hysterica. And remember, PLAGIRISM IS BAD!!!

He is the coolest professor. The material he teaches in class isn't necessarily on the exams but the basic concepts are. If you take good notes, you'll be fine. I hated history before this (I'm still not fond of it) but he made the class very interesting and easy to understand.

A very non traditional history class from a very non traditional teacher. I like history and never had a class as entertaining and eye opening as this one. The first amendment was the focus. A throughly enjoyable class and a funny enjoyable professor.

Fantastic class. The best prof I have had as a returning student at Montclair. Dougherty covets and covers Constitutional Issues and waxes eloquently on a wide range of subjects. If you do the work, participate in class, and let him know who you are you will get a good grade. Easy on the eyes in a non traditional way. Not your average academic.

He is not what you expect in a professor. Class was VERY easy but a lot of papers. Final exam was a paper done out of class. Assignments were NOT clear. Class participation helps for a good grade. Don't buy the book until after a class or two - we had one assignment in it but never used the book again. Interesting guy.

AMAZING class. There is almost no history learned but a lot more about Freedom of Speech and Law. Provided you speak up in class and back your opinion up then you will be fine. He doesnt care if you show or not. The requirements arent clear but he works with you. Plagerisim is BAD! (take the class and you'll get the joke)

Dougherty is a great guy and can make you laugh! As a teacher he is EXTREMELY UNORGANIZED!!! You will NEVER be able to get in touch with him outside of class. All we did were papers in class and as long as you don't plagiarize you'll be fine. Not hard to get an A or B in his class...but make sure he knows who you are! Participation counts!

He's very funny. The class is laid back and there are discussions on a lot of interesting topics. He's kind of unclear and impossible to reach outside the classroom, but he's a cool guy and pretty easy, too. The workload isn't bad at all and you will learn.
