I took Japanese 111 with Ito Sensei and I can honestly say that she was an amazing teacher! Even if you feel uncomfortable with the language she pushes you to participate, and this made me much better at Japanese. I would definitely recommend this class.

Despite the comments, Ito-sensei is a real gem. She's SUPER friendly, and is very willing to talk to you about your grade, especially if you drop by her office. She's usually in her office, so really, you could just drop in for a chat. I've taken several of her courses, and I've loved all of them.

Comment:
Ito has good intentions, but she is kind of derpy. She speaks decent English but not great and every once in a while things will get lost in translation. Also she has given the WLC a test late which sucked for some people that needed to do it earlier in their schedule. Will also upload assignments to moodle late so be ready to cram those.

This professor was one of the worst professors I have had here. She is a very great person, but she cannot teach this course. Besides her disorganization, she never seemed to answer my questions in a clear way, and I never received any straight answers from her. I highly suggest staying away.

She is extremely inconsistent. She assigns a lot of busy work. There is a LOT of reading every night. She assigns projects and is not willing to meet or give very much feed back.

Comment:
Ito Sensei was not helpful as a professor. She was hyper critical of everything I did, while simultaneously being very generous with points to other students. I really felt like she had a vendetta against me. Upon asking for advice about not being able to get my 89% up to a A- in the class, she just told me I wasn't good enough at Japanese.

Prof. Ito is a lot of fun in her classes. She is very helpful and will guide you through problems. She demands a lot of work at times, but the difficulty isn't always high. If you take her for a linguistics course, work on the final project. Totally recommended, plus you get to read Manga for class. (Doraemon)

Unorganized, esp. with remembering to give us our homework. Homework, while only a page, could take up to 2 hrs -- lots of paragraphs to write in Japanese and specific questions to answer. But always desiring feedback from students. Uses Moodle like nobody's business.

People seem to have good experiences in Beginning Japanese, but don't take Advanced with Ito unless you have lots of time on your hands and masochistic tendencies. She gave preferential treatment to some students and was extremely unwilling to deviate from the (TERRIBLE) curriculum.

has A LOT of energy (really); lots of practice, repetition, quizzes, work with partners...gets to your sanity after awhile, but she's pretty good at teaching a language that appears to be impossible. open to questions and available for help. =)
