Comment:
This professor wouldn't be my first choice. The class is passable if you study. The professor reads from long PowerPoints and expects you to memorize or know the material within the next week for a test. The professor went through the chapters absolutely too fast. There was an exam about every 2-3 weeks. Sweet guy.

Prof. Staker is a nice person, but he teaches senior level bio information in a intro to biology class. Content is extremely hard to understand. He expects unrealistic study times outside class. He does however provide study guides for his test, but expects you to understand everything on the test when presented completely different on the guide.

He is a nice man. He has lots of personal and teaching experience with teaching Biology. He just does not do well in a teaching environment. He does not understand how to connect the material with his class. He is still reading every ppt word for word. The detail required to get an A in his class is extremely rare. The average grade is a C.

He's a very nice guy. But he reads slide for slide, he can't explain my questions well. He drifts in lectures, so 98% of the time we are there until the very last minute of class. He's pretty lenient on lecture exams. He's not the worst but definitely not the best.

I actually two him for bio1171 and bio1272. I felt as if the other students were way too hard on him. He's nice, caring and doesn't want you to fail so he gives extra credit and even retake exams when the whole class does poorly. He isn't the best lecturer but we're in college and not high school, you need to be able to teach yourself the material.

You can hardly hear him speak during lecture, and his lectures are just him reading the powerpoints word for word. Pointless to pay attention. He added extra chapters that the school didn't require him to cover and rushed through every single chapter, ignoring if we were struggling. He's a nice guy, don't get me wrong- But he's a horrible teacher.

He taught my bio lab class at the University of Dayton. He is a terrible teacher and does not know the information well enough to answer any questions you have. Often times we will be halfway through a lab and he'll tell us something we needed to know at the beginning. He grades tough and there are weekly quizzes. I do not recommend taking him.

He is a nice person and willing to help, but not good at teaching, pretty much just read the ppt,and not good at explaining things. He does provide the study guide for exam, but good luck on that, because there are lots of questions that you will have to work on, pretty much you will need to know the whole book, and the lab exams are horrible...

He is a nice guy, helpful & takes your comments into consideration, BUT his ppts are direct out of the book. He over-explains the material or makes it hard to understand. His study guides are lengthy and not to the point for tests. All I gotta say is read the chapters beforehand, it'll help you. I had him for lab too.

He is a soft spoken man and very smart. Although he would be better off teaching a higher level class. He is a great person...not the best teacher. But I will give you this: After reading all these comments about him, I can tell you that he has def. taken the evaluations into consideration. He has improved a lot. It's a hard class but just study!

Mr. Staker is very nice and extremely helpful. If you do not show up to class or ask questions when you don't understand something you will not do well. He will respond to emails with questions on material and even set aside time outside of class, if needed, to help you understand material and succeed in his class. I enjoyed taking his class.

While you can tell he is extremely intelligent, he is a SCIENTIST, not a good educator. He would do well teaching a much higher class, but could was terrible at teaching a bunch of Gen Ed students the basics. Don't bother asking questions...he'll just repeat verbatim what he said the first time.

Very good teacher, kind and extremely helpful. If you don't ask questions, he'll assume you understand and move quickly, so speak up if you need help. He's always willing to help. Enjoys interacting with students and likes to be asked questions. Great class!

He was extremely helpful very kind. He explains things well if asked and can tell if you're not interested. If you act like this class is the worst thing that's ever happened to you, he won't be as willing to help. Just ask and be nice to him! Sweet old man.

I only had him for lab, but he is very helpful, all you need to do is ask. He can tell when you're not interested so if you act like you don't want to be there, he won't pay as much attention to you as the students who participate and ask questions. Offers extra credit quizzes if asked, explains things whenever you need something explained.

I had him for microbiology lab. It was his first time teaching it and I thought he did a great job! He's a very patient instructor and will explain things over for you if you did not understand how to do something. And he tries his best to help you out as much as he can.

As a disclaimer, I only had for lab. He speaks very softly and it was impossible to hear him during lab. Also, I bought a lab book for no reason because we only used it once. He expected us to take perfect notes in our field notebook. He also assumed that we were all biology majors and had taken statistics before. The lab tests were very hard!

This professor is very nice, helpful and very smart. However, this class is very difficult. His tests are the hardest I ever had to take at Sinclair. Open questions and long essays. If you are planning on an easy bio class, then do not take him.
