Dr. James Rietveld is nice, knowledgeable, and passionate about his subjects. However, this class was disorganized and the assignments unclear. Very little guidance on major assignments. Do not take if you like structure or grades, none until week 13. If you attend class and turn everything in, you will get an A or B, but not learn much.

Dr. Ronald Rietveld is an amazing person full of incredible life experiences that he shares with the class. He is a Lincoln expert and is very knowledgeable about his subjects. He is retired, but take him if you have the chance. The tests (multiple choice, t/f, and essay) are difficult, but if you attend class and read the books you will pass.

Not to discredit Ronald Rietveld, I think many of the users who have rated Ronald Rietveld have him confused with Dr. JAMES Reitveld. Dr. JAMES Reitveld is a passionate teacher who often asks "we still breathing?"

"Are We Breathing?" You'll hear that alot. Dr. Rietveld is a great professor. You'll never see a powerpoint presentation in this class. He might glance at a paper on the podium for a second, and then hes off! Dr. R will keep the class as exciting as history can get. I would recommend this class to everyone. He will prep you for all his exams

Professor Rietveld really knows his stuff! I am not that into history but he makes very interesting connections, and has great stories. His lectures are long but very intresting. His quizes, only 3, are so easy and he is a super easy grader, if you go over the study guide you will be able to do very well. overall I enjoyed the class.

Not only are his test super easy (no dates necessary!), but they are subjective...Show up to 95% of classes and take good notes to review for a few days before tests and there is no way you can't get an A...Also, he has a contagious passion for the subject and lots of good stories. Only complaint is he talks so fast he looses me occasionally.

Comment:

Doc Rietveld is a legend both in teaching and character. His lectures are some of the best on the subjects covered and he provides all the material needed for a prepared student to do well AND enjoy his class. Keep in mind that this guy has helped write speeches for Reagan and other important figures of our time. Highly Recomended!

he is horrible! he is a cool guy, not mean, but horrible at teaching! his lectures is beyond useless. no study guide at all! Curves a lot but still end up getting a D! I always reieve a B and better in history! @#%@#

He's an OK guy but I don't really like his lectures. I wish his lectures were more useful..but they were not. Tests are written by his TA and this semester..his TA SUCKS! Everyone hates her because her tests are so unfair. I regret taking the class.

Everybody raves about this guy and I can see that he is a really cool guy with some interesting stories but his lectures go to fast and dont follow the book or outline. I stopped going completely and still managed a B only because i cracked open the book though. I would advise a lazy person that could care less about history to not take this class.

Great teacher! He knows many languages and is incredibly intelligent. I can't stand history but he really made it interesting with all of his knowledge and experiences. He really gave you a deep understanding of history. Best history teacher I've ever had.

I only had the pleasure of taking Hist 110a w/ Doc but it is one of my favorite classes. The fact that it is hard to get into his classes really says something about him. He is a great professor with lots of experience to share. He is an instituion on campus. Take his classes if you can!

Don't know if he is retired or not, but he was a great teacher. He only has a midterm and final, grades pretty easy, but assigns a ton of books (trick is only read one {essay part of tests are related to each book) , attend classes and you'll get an A, always. Very interested in his subject, so it makes you interested too!

Attendance is a must. Curves tests a lot, to the point where i should've failed, but got an A.Easy and interesting. Has a lot of past experience to help with the lecture.
