This course was not meant for an introductory course. The only way he is even still a teacher is because his grade scale is so off that an 80 was a B.

Honestly bro... for this to be a 1000 level course, it seems like its 3000 at best. If you dont have a background in astronomy dont take the course

So I took this class thinking it would be somewhat easy considering it's a 1000 block class. WRONG. He is very knowledgeable but he does not explain anything in terms students can understand. His tests barely correlate with anything discussed in class. I am an A/B student yet I failed the last 2 midterms, along with everyone else in the class.

Though this is a 1000 level class, he teaches it like a 3000 level class and assumes everyone has the background knowledge he has. He throws way too much info at you in a given class period and doesnt explain anything well at all. The text book sucks, his exams suck, and he sucks. The class averages on the 3 midterms we had were 63%, 44%, and 50%

This course is extremely difficult, especially when taking multiple other classes that are also time-consuming. The lectures are not very useful and are easy to skip, but the material discussed is EXTREMELY difficult. I would only recommend this class to students who are looking for a challenge or who are taking a light course load.

DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! This was the hardest class I have ever taken. I went to every lecture, and did all the homework and it still was terrible. He gives you practice exams but they are NOTHING like the test. Everyone in my class did terrible on all the tests and when we called him out on it he replied that "it's not my problem".

Honestly, this class if not going to be as easy as you think it is if you take him. Its the physics aspect of everything and its too much information to learn. He doesn't care if you pass (he literally said that) while he can't even get an A on his own exams. If you can help it, DON'T TAKE HIM.

He likes to pretend he's accessible outside class and willing to help you, but he's condescending and rude when you do ask for help it's almost not worth asking for help from him in the first place. He makes the material harder to understand then it would be, and astrophysics is difficult to begin with. I couldn't passed this class without a tutor.

He doesn't care that he makes this class incredibly difficult for an entry-level class. The tests are nothing like what you learn in class, and the class is insanely curved. Most students end up with a C, which doesn't help your GPA. If you can, take ASTR 1001 or another prof.

2051 is hard no matter who you take it with, and Ulloa understands that. The most engaging and funniest professor I've ever had, which really helps with the difficult lectures. He's also open about how he feels about the material and our performance in the class. Just a great guy Bottom line, if you can take physics with Dr. Ulloa DO IT!

If you take 2051, take it with Dr Ulloa. He likes demonstrations (water all over the front desk, student spinning on a chair, professor hanging from the ceiling), and even when not hanging from the ceiling he's hilarious. He also just loves physics. Good explanations, very willing to help. It's a hard class but Dr U is the best prof for it.

This was not my favorite class, due to the amount of work that needed to be put into the homework, pre class assignments, etc. However, Dr. Ulloa himself was a really cool guy. If you can talk to him during office hours, he'll probably be able to clear up your problems. He also manages to makes the lecture somewhat enjoyable. I'd recommend him.

Ulloa was a funny guy. He made the material considerably easy to understand. His in-class examples were relevant but too easy for homework. The homework is done with a system called Lon Capa and 90% of the problems can be looked up on the internet. Overall, he's a pretty good teacher.

Can be funny at times, but all in all is very poor at teaching material. He gives the simpliest examples then expects everyone to be able to figure out very difficult problems on their own, which is very frustrating. I would not recommend him.

He's funny, don't get me wrong. But unfortunately he sometimes doesn't teach the material you need to know for homework. Yes, it can be difficult, but you manage. And yes, he's available for help outside of class, but be a little assertive about that; he can be hard to catch. His quizzes are difficult, but can be done. You just gotta think. . hard!

This professor was very interesting and knows how to make you laugh - even if you aren't a physics nerd. He isn't very clear in class with the material, but there is just not enough class time and he is always willing to help you outside of class - you just have to take the time to do it. All in all, I learned a lot and he always kept me laughing

The material in class is difficult to begin with but manageable. Unfortunately Dr. Ulloa does not explain material very well and his quizzes in class which are each a 100 points are harder than the actual midterm. I don't recommend taking this class with him, get the other professor teaching it.
