I never knew how to write a GOOD introductory paragraph to a paper until I took her class. She's excellent, intelligent, and always willing to help her students who reach out to her.

Professor Yang is very generous when it comes to grading. Yes, she can be a tough grader but she leaves you good feedback. She also provides you with bonus assignments to replace the lowest homework writing grade you got which most professors don't do. The only thing I didn't like about the class is it requires a textbook which is rarely used.

Professor Yang can be a bit of a tough grader but I will admit she is very fair when it comes to grading and she gives you good feedback. You will have to work to get good grades in this class but if you show up to classes and participate you will be fine. Just make sure you raise your hand because she will call out on you.

She is so friendly but her class can be not the most interesting class to sit in. She is such a tough grader in papers but she gives us a chance to rewrite it for a better grade and tells us good feedback. She assigns a lot of readings through which those readings are important to relate to in her papers we have to write.

Professor Yang is the type of English professor that expects you to know how to write. There weren't too many writing assignment (just two) but she grades them harshly and will take points off for the slightest error.

Dr. Yang is extremely unique. Although there are 3 page papers due every 3/4 classes, Dr. Yang offers many extra credit opportunities to make up missed homework assignments and quizzes throughout the semester. She is down to earth and clearly passionate when she lectures. Participation is extremely important, would take again

She is a quirky spirit and I love her for that, but man this class was rough at the time I was taking it. There's alot of reading and it's very science based for an english class. There are three major papers and then a bunch on in class writings which substantially boost your grade. Extrememly helpful with other classes but not fun at the time.

Comment:
Dr Yang, as expected of a survey course, hinges her class on discussion. There's no real rigor in terms of class structure. You talk about what you found important in the readings. Two papers, a handful of pop quizzes on the readings, and then the final. Occasionaly read, and chime in when you can and you'll do great. Peculiar character, but easy.

Very fun to have a class with Dr. Yang. Would highly recommend. Will have to work for the grade, and it is sometimes frustrating... But I suggest you get the Sharon Yang experience! Clearly describes criteria for papers, and will work with you to work on re-writes. Books are fun to read. Would take a class with this professor again.

I've taken Dr. Yang's courses for three semesters in a row. She's very easy to work with, has considerable knowledge of her subject matter, and will go out of her way to help her students. You will need to participate in her classes; but that's part of education. She has a fancy hat for every day of the year and cracks hilarious & subtle jokes.

Knowledgeable and intelligent. Very good with grammar--however that also makes her very strict about it in papers. Not terrible, but talks about her husband too much and wears silly hat/outfit combos every single class. A unique experience.

Yang is kind of intimidating with the work she gives. You need to constantly pay attention because she may call on you at any time. If you don't put in effort, you won't do well at all. Make sure you read and go to class. A lot of your grade is based on participation. Very open to interpretation; will consider any point you make. Very nice but hard

Dr. Yang requires many books, at least for the class I took. She loves discussion so if you are a student who likes to sit back and not say anything...good luck! She calls on people who don't talk. She is crazy. She is obsessed with science because her husband is a physicist. I wouldn't recommend her but she's not the worst.

Awful. The basis for your grade is: 2 papers, which are a nightmare due to her lack of clarity and over-strictness; a few "pop" class writings, which you can't make-up if missed; and class discussions, which are dominated always by a few people. She def knows her material, but her teaching methods are horrible. I won't take another course with her.

Professor Yang is one of the most memorable instructors with whom you will ever work. She is contagiously enthusiastic about course material. The most important requirement for her course is that you show up and you're prepared for discussions. With that, you're golden.
