Comment:
He goes on a lot of tangents and his lectures are pretty verbose. Attendance is compulsory and he will give quizzes if attendance is lacking. Very technical on the information and data presented and wants very specific answers, so there's that. Didn't really care for his style but it is what it is; If you want an A in his class prepare to work!

Ecology is broad subject that most 3rd year students have little experience with. The new concepts are mind numbing but can be understood. Dr. Blumshine is a good lecturer but covers large chunks of material at a time. Recommendation: record his lectures, listen to them 2-3 times, and use that to supplement your notes. Dont just skim the PPs.

He's one of those professors that wants very particular answers on an exam, so the first test is always very hard. His later exams aren't as bad, but his lectures got worse near the end of the semester, and it's hard to study material since most of it isn't in his lecture slides. He also wastes a lot of time with pointless videos and tangents.

Dr. Blumenshine is a good professor but the problem is that his tests are medium to hard for just 50 min. Must be ready to take a test in 50 min. Also must be ready to retain a bunch of info. Study a lot for his class not joking. make study groups. Also, don't give up if you do badly on one of the tests there is a lot of points. Good luck.

Tried everything possible to ace Ecology but still ended up with a B, overall this instructor makes it seem as there no room for error thus impossible to get an A. Lecture 60%, 3 Exams(you will feel rushed in 50 minutes) and Final (took the entire 2 hours) and 40% Lab grade overall try your hardest if you want an A in Ecology.

Ecology is definitely not an easy A, Blumenshine is a good lecturer but the exams are insane hard for 50 minutes literally didn't stop writing. If you want a A, sorry but it'll take a Miracle, beware of his Final. You've been warned.

It's 4 units now, thought he was going to be easier than Dr. Constable, WRONG!! 3 Midterms and Final, 60% Lecture & 40% Lab(Get Karen, she's great!) 101 is not an easy A, since class had to be curved, 88% A. Each Exam contains 4 definitions, 3 Fill in, 6 Multiple Choice, 5 short answer, 1-2 long answer in 50 mins!! The Final was death!!

Attend lectures because the exams are based on content addressed during class. There was a required online SimUText book with multiple assignments to complete. Be prepared to get accustomed to his fast-paced lectures. He is very knowledgeable/passionate about ecology. Feel free to ask him questions during office hours because he is willing to help.

Dr. Blumenshine's lectures are fast-paced, so I didn't really take notes. But definitely attend class always because he gives out random quizzes (extra points!). Tests are easy if you study the powerpoints; I got 89-90% on each one and didn't study as much for this class. I'm not an ecology person, but the lab portion was fun.

Comment:
Very knowledgeable & is "research-based", so he loves abstracts & applying the material to real-life ecology methods/examples..however if u don't have a background in ecology, it's arduous to understand what he's saying. Exams = TOUGH! e.g ~4def, ~8MC, ~4fillins, 3-6 short answers, 1 long answer-all within 50 min! WAY more difficult than expected

His lectures were available on power point. Attendance was not req. but every other lecture or so there was a clicker question that counts for a portion of your grade. The study guides were useless. memorizing the powerpoints will not help much being able to apply what was covered in class is more important. The tests can be tricky!

He makes this class super easy, and gives out study guides before tests that basically cover exactly what̢۪s on the test. He also posts lecture notes on blackboard and makes it practically impossible to fail.
