Easy going class. I took his evening class last spring semester. He provide all example and guide lines. So, easy to A, just need to finish 4 speech. He provide a very clear grade guide line. English is not my first language, however, easy to get A. He just want follow some rules that is a common senses and basic manners.

Grades way too hard for a general education class. Will dock you points for almost anything. Extremely picky as well. Not very helpful and gets pissy. Must not like teaching a class at 7am.

If you just show up then you're fine. If you're nervous about public speaking take his 7 am class and get it over with in the morning so you don't have to worry about it later in the day. He is the nicest guy. Just do what he asks of you, and you'll easily pass with an A.

Professor Karlsen is very straightforward and blunt. He can come off rude at times but his class is an easy A. Show up for your speeches and do your outlines. First speech is an automatic A.

Easy class. There are only 4 speeches and he gives you all the tools necessary to do good on any speech to get an A in the class. Be very respectful when someone is presenting because he'll snap at you. Final is extra credit.

If you want to take a speech 1 class, this is the class to take. Very easy with set guidelines for each speech plus only 4 speeches for the whole semester, with a 50 point extra credit final at the end. Really cool teacher.

Mr Karlsen is a great professor. Optional book, extra credit final, automatic full points on the first speech, choice of topics. Lots of opportunities to do well. Speech can be the hardest class you take if you're prone to anxiety. I'd recommend getting to know your class mates, it makes speaking in front of them a lot less scary.

No textbook, 4 Speeches and you get plenty of time to prepare for them. He's a really nice guy he's only harsh on people who don't take the class seriously. If you at least try to present it and make good eye contact you'll be fine. Far too many just read and don't even try just try he'll notice.

Please save yourself the trouble and hurt feelings and avoid this professor. He is not only boring but extremely unhelpful. His instructions were never clear and he was to quick to snap at you for "not following directions" even if you had a question! He does not use a textbook but that was probably the ONLY part of this class I enjoyed.

Very nice man. His class consists of four speeches, and the first one is an automatic 10% of your grade AS LONG AS YOU GET UP THERE AND DO IT! LOL. He also has an extra credit final that is take-home. No reason to get lower than a B.

So nice and helpful. I don't fear public speaking anymore. All you have to do is show up for class and rehearse your speeches...really! As long as you don't take advantage of this class being so easy, you have to get an A :)

He made me fear public speaking more than I already did. He keeps saying he is aware that we are amateurs but he still expects a lot. I guess he just didn't like me. Don't miss class and follow ALL his instructions even though they are not clear.

Mr. Karlsen's class is extremely ez. As long as u spend some time and effort into making ur speeches, u are guaranteed an A. His grading guideline is very straight forward. I took him in Winter 2011 and I had to do 4 speeches. The speeches gets a little bit harder after each one, but it's nothing a normal person can't handle. Recommended!

GREAT TEACHER! Don't need the book AT ALL. The only thing required in the class is to write 4 speeches. No tests and the final is take home and extra credit. He'll tell you exactly what you need to do to make your speeches good and what you need to get an A.

i only got a B when my friend got an A, we both missed a few classes but did all the works. I guess he just did not like me. i recommand talking to him more often if you want a good grade, also you have to show him that you care for this class, try emailing him and stuff, be very nice to him, then you get an A.
