Drake is an extremely amazing professor and his lectures are really good. There is a TON of reading and you are quizzed on it and they are specific enough questions that you need to read not skim. I really enjoyed his class though you write a few papers but they are not hard. Participation is key to this class

Comment:

Thomas Andrew Drake is the single greatest gem of this university. Although attendance was mandatory, you always wanted to go to hear insight and complain about furries. Never a dull moment, write your papers early. Talk a lot, he likes participation.

I love Tom! He's super caring, super entertaining, and his Love and Happiness class is super easy and eye-opening. There's a lot of easy reading and short papers you have to write, but he grades easily and the topics are philosophical. 10/10

Comment:

The class was super engaging full of group projects and interesting lectures. Drake was a super fun professor easy to talk with. Attendance was taken each day so you had to show up and there were readings due almost each class and pop quizzes with pretty much every reading. We also had a couple papers but overall he was an incredible professor!

Lectures were always interesting. Make sure you do the reading to be ready for the quizzes. Exams are easy if you go to class. This was the second class I've taken from him and I'm glad I did.

Tom reminds me why I actually bother with college at all. He's an amazing lecturer-- hilarious and so smart-- but also a very kind person. I learned a lot from his classes. Tests are difficult, but if you put in the time and effort and go to class, you should be good. I really can't recommend him enough. I'd go out of my way to be in his class.

I had Drake for the Love & Happiness ISEM. It discussed nothing happy and lovey dove but the dark side of prostitution, politics and sex. He is a very tough grader (format) and believes his opinion is the best. Participate in class, he loves it but don't be rude and sassy, you'll regret it.

is a phenomenal teacher. He is interesting to listen to, which makes going to his class worth while. Drake can be a tough grader when it comes to his essays, projects, and finals. If your thoughts, and explanations for this course do not match his, then you will most likely receive a C. Go to his office hours for clarification for his assignments.

Although Drake easily has had the funniest and most engaging lectures I have seen in the university, he often and ironically has a narrow-minded view on a lot of philosophies although he tries hard to cover that up. It was a fun class, but by the end I was very weary of this prof.

Not a hard class as long as you read. Tom is super funny, very energetic, just overall an amazing teacher. I learned more from him just in a Western Literature class, than I did in basically any other class thus far. Seriously, best teacher I've had.

Comment:

Drake is a super charismatic, incredibly funny, and extremely knowledgeable professor. Lectures are very detailed yet passionate and engaging. Overall, the best professor at UI, and though there's a heavy emphasis on reading primary classical sources, the workload is manageable: occasional quizzes, a couple tests, one discussion/presentation.

Tom is the greatest lecturer. He connects the assigned reading to his students' lives. That isn't always easy when reading Beowulf, Gilgamesh, and The Canterbury Tales - but, he is able to do it. I promise Drake's class will change your life, but you have to be willing to work. Do the reading and show up to class. Any Drake class is worth it.

Drake, hands down is the best prof. I've ever had. He doesn't see you as just another face, he actually remembers you and knows his students. If you need help in class, he is there; help in a personal situation, he is there. If you ever get the chance to take his class, do not hesitate. DO IT. Lectures are fun, tests are easy if you go to class.

Tom Drake is probably the best professor I have ever had. His lectures are hilarious and he really knows how to get students involved. Take his class if you can!
