Comment:
Do not take this class unless you want to hurt your GPA. Her tests are horrible and you have to be able to identify the speaker and significance of two lines out of a possible 30 short stories, 30 poems, and two novels. It is not an accurate representation regarding what you learned. Also, if she does not like the way you write, you will not pass.

Pretty easy class, just really really boring. Also, there are only 2 tests (the midterm and final) so you have to do well. The midterm was easy, but the final was extremely hard. Do NOT take this as a once a week class, get twice a week if possible.

Professor Prevost definitely knows what she's talking about. She was A LOT better teacher for Survey of American Literature versus the teacher I had last semester. She's a really sweet lady who will help you if you schedule appointments with her to look over your paper, etc. I'd take her again and I recommend her. Be prepared to read in this class!

Dr. Prevost is a really nice woman, who knows what she is talking about. That being said, the class is kind of boring. With a more engaged class, it might have been better, but there are a lot of reading responses (which help with papers later) and the mid term final suck because they are in depth questions about what we read - and we read a ton.

She knows what she's talking about, enthusiastic, provides insight, appreciates response, attempts discussion. Honestly, she could be a better teacher IF SHE HAD BETTER STUDENTS. Can't tell you how many idiotic comments she's been subjected to by my class. She probably has no hope for the future. That must be why she laughs the way she does.

Comment:
Very odd teaching style. You're required to read 1 novel per week and finish each prior to any class discussion/lecture. Meaning you get no background info or suggestions about information to consider until after reading each novel. Prevost never responds to emails and is often quite snarky with students. Be ready to teach yourself if you take this

Comment:
Prevost is absolutely the most aggravating professor I've encountered at UTC. Although she offers rewrites for her papers, don't expect your grade to increase much more than the original grade, if at all. Her expectations of her students are set on an unreachable level that no student, no matter the input of time commitment, can reach. Do NOT take.

HORRIBLE! This woman does not teach. If you are a mind-reader, I'm sure you will do well. She asked students to participate in class, but will laugh and humilate you if she thinks you're wrong. She will tell students their papers were so bad they are automatic fails, yet fails to even look at them in first place. Will NEVER take again!

Dr. Prevost was an absolute joy to have as a professor. Her novel course was excellent! Her book selections always kept me anticipating more! If you read the books, take good notes, and participate in class discussions , you will do fine! I strongly advise taking her!

Far more interested in advancing her own career and university politics than in students or their best interests. Watch your back. She's perfected the art of smiling to your face while twisting the knife in your back. Never ask any questions of her and adopt a stance of quiet submission. She's slowly running the MA program into the ground.

Probably the best kind of Southern Lit. teacher in the region. Nonetheless, I wouldn't trust her to be helpful on anything more than that.
