She was literally the worst professor I've ever had... I toke german for 5 years prior to her class and hate some of the best teachers and professors ever and came into college thinking I would minor or major in German and taking her class ruined it for me. Do not take her if you want to have a miserable semester.

Professor Sterba is the hardest prof I have ever had. She expects a lot of her students including: spending a large amount of time preparing for her class, having no missed classes, and speaking 0 english while in class.

She wants class to be fun but also wants you to learn the maximum amount possible. Homework every class on moodle- usually not bad. can redo all homework and retake every test, your grade is in your own hands.

She loves German and the culture. She gives you really good ways of understanding and remembering rules for German. It's not easy but you learn a lot. She wants the class to be fun

Comment:

Frau Sterba was one of the greatest professors I have ever had. She gives quite a bit of homework but is totally willing to help you if you need it. I met with her for tutoring help every week and she helped to much with the homework. She is goofy and really wants you to succeed. One of the best profs out there.

She is nice but the grading is super hardcore. Misspell one thing on a vocab quiz and its all wrong, often time one word is 5 points. She does not slow down no matter how lost the class is, you just keep moving forward. All homework and tests can be redone, and you'll have to so it takes up a lot of time outside of class. She makes the class hard

She is incredibly knowledgeable but expects far too much from her students. I had her for German 111 & 112 and she expected us to only use German from the second day of class (in 111). If you ask questions she has good answers but she's scatterbrained and expects her students to start at her level. Constant homework. Work hard and you'll maybe pass

While I expect to receive I good grade in this class I haven't learned a lick of German. She insisted we only talk in German in the classroom (c'mon it's 111, you think I can speak it?) and moved through material extremely fast. Every night there's at least 2 homework assignments. Avoid this prof. if you are just starting German. Keine Ahnung.

Very hard teacher. Expects students to already know the language. She gives assignments everyday which can be difficult. She gives a lot of zeros and makes you redo assignments which causes you to fall behind. She expects you to spend all your time in German. I hate this class. I spend 90% of my time working for this class. Up to 3 quizzes a week.

Great prof and expects students to keep up on their end. She gives daily assignments which generally aren't terrible if you have a general understanding of the language and what is being taught in class. You learn a lot in this class!! Would highly recommend just get ready for the work ahead.

Wendy is a very interesting lady. She loves the language and is very good at it, but she sometimes fails to understand that her students are nowhere near the level she expects them to be. She will ask a lot out of you, but is more than willing to help and you will learn a very large amount.

Do not take this professor. She was very unclear and unwilling to help. She gave suggestions and then changed her mind on those suggestions and required work to be re done because of her own errors. No one in our FYS class got a good grade the semester she taught, the previous semester with a different prof most students did well. Stay away!

Comment:

Probably the best German Prof at St. John's/St. Ben's. Definitely tough, but you learn a lot and she is always willing to help outside of class. If you write about anything that she may hold a differing opinion on, be ready to fight for your grade a bit.

You will learn SO much in this class, but be prepared to work your ass off. Wendy is passionate about what she does and will work with even the most novice students in her class tomake sure they are understanding the material. If you are looking for an easy class to slide through, this would not be a good choice!
