Brewer is a good professor, he knows what he is talking about. But this class is HEAVY in reading and there are reading quizzes at least once a week. If you show up and do the reading you will pass the class.

Ive taken at least two or three classes with this professor and Ive enjoyed all of them! He really tries to get the class to participate and and we always talk about interesting topics. The grades are spread evenly out by quizzes, a presentation, and a paper in just about every course.

Dr. Brewer is a very caring professor. He has the best interest of his students. He is a little quirky, but it's not a bad thing. The class was mostly classic poets, and I would have like to get a more diverse group of modern poets and poets of color. I would probably take him again for a class.

Dr. Brewer is super weird, but he's a really nice guy. He really appreciates participation and effort. He raised my final essay grade by a whole letter simply because I turned in an extra rough draft. Do the readings and be ready for quizzes.

Everyone hates the midterm&final, but I made 90+ on both. Advice for them: read all sections and take notes throughout the semester. Before midterm/final, make separate flashcards for author, title, and significance. Mainly, you just need to be able to recognize the passage during the test. I thought Brewer did great with teaching the readings.

I would honestly avoid Brewer. And this is coming from an English major. His midterm and final are nearly impossible - you must write 6 to 8 sentences identifying all the works you've read. If you have ideas that disagree with his, he will dismiss you and tell you that you're wrong. It wasn't hard to pass, but it was a lot of work for a Gen Ed.

Prof. Brewer shows a lot of passion for British Lit, and he tried a lot to get students involved in the class. There weren't many papers (mainly just the final), but the mid-term felt impossible. However, Brewer gave partial credit, so passing it wasn't quite so hopeless.

This class wasn't that hard, but the frequent quizzes on the readings were somewhat difficult and he didn't foster an environment for class discussion. For the tests, you have to basically memorize what he said in lecture about specific works. The group presentations seemed a little pointless but they weren't bad. Just a mediocre class.

At first I thought it was goint to be fun, but the long lectures, painfully bad jokes and inapropriate sexual innuendos made it terrible. I would not reccomend this class, especally if you are a girl because he looks at you really wierd. Class projects take up alot of time but don't teach anything. As an English major I would never take him again.

Great guy. Really entertaining and loves to laugh. I normally hate class discussions, but he makes them really fun. A lot of reading, but it is a lit course. Two group projects and a paper. reading quizzes that are easy and two exams. great class and fun readings.

I liked him well enough. He's very intelligent and knows what he's talking about. Reading quizzes are pretty easy as long as you actually read. Can be a tough grader, but he's fair. All in all, a pretty easy class for a 4000 literature class. I would take him again if I had to, but he's not my favorite professor.

Brewer's class may not have been the most exciting, but he is a really smart man who was easy to pay attention to just because he knew so much. He's not one of those professors that is going to reach out to you, but he's there if you need him. His reading quizzes can be tough, so don't try to rely off of sparknotes or summaries.

Dr. Brewer is an eccentric man. His lectures are a bit repetitive and awkward, but interesting nonetheless. Quizes are hard even if you read. 2 exams, 1 group project, and 2 papers. If you pay attention in class you'll be fine on exams and group project is easy. Grades a little harder on papers. Nice professor overall.

Don't question his opinion on gothic novels. Whether you're right or not, he will go out of his way to argue otherwise. Super random pop quizzes on the reading (you have to read A LOT to pass). Attendance is mandatory and he's a stickler about it. One group presentation project, 17 quizzes, 1 midterm, final, and a take-home final. Descent at best.

This is literally the most pointless class at appalachian. All you do is read books and there are at least 20 of them. You go to class and listen to him talk and bore you to death and take occasional quizzes. He is dry when he tries to be funny and doesn't work. There are 17 quizzes one midterm group project and final. AVOID THIS CLASS.

I love Pro Brewer. He is a very sweet, educated man! He knows what he's talking about, and while he can be passively stubborn, he is very open to different opinions so long as they have real support. He is a super easy grader; the pop quizzes are what got me. But he warns you about them. Just make sure you read and you'll do fine!

I hate reading so needless to say I was happy with the c+, grade is made up of 15 quizzes(youtake17&drop2), midterm, final, and a project,50 on the midterm and sparknoted all the novels (read the poems in the beginning for the midterm)you get 3 absences, after the midterm quizes are based on novels so your grade will go up...

This class focused on gothic british lit. At first it looks like there's ALOT to read, but if you keep up with your readings it isn't that bad. The books are pretty interesting too, and this is coming from a person who hates to read! Simple class.. just read and take pop quizes on the readings, an easy midterm & group project, and a final paper.

Dr. Brewer teaches the kind of class that causes people to not take the humanities seriously. You can pretty much spew anything slightly resembling a coherent thought onto the page and get by with a B. If that's your thing, go for it. If you're looking for anything resembling a worthwhile education go elsewhere.

Professor Brewer is knowledgeable and entertaining. His class setting is laid back with lots of input from students. He is tough on papers and in-class quizzes but his feedback is helpful. This is not a class to take to get an easy A but if you want to learn about poetry and you are willing to work hard, you will find this the class for you.
