Zero Tests. Two to three quizzes (one-page paper, double-spaced). Three other papers, each five pages. If you dislike your score on a paper, you're allowed as many re-writes as you want. He leaves feedback on what needs editing. Take notes during lecture. The book was needed to pull quotes or concepts for the papers. No final exam - just a paper.

Fairly easy class. You'll enjoy it more if you at least skim the readings so you can have discussions. He's a pretty interesting guy, and sometimes he's really funny. Grade is based on 3, 6ish page papers and some 1 page quizzes.

I didn't really care for him as a professor. As a person he is super nice, as a professor I didn't like him. He grades very hard and lectures ALL THE TIME!

This class was one of the easiest classes I have ever taken here at UNI (and I'm a senior). The number of times I went to class was 11 in all the semester and still got a B+. You just write papers and that's it. Dr. Chlohesy is a genuinely nice guy and has many funny and interesting perspectives on life in general.

An interesting professor. asks that you participate in every discussion, even if you disagree. The class is not easy you must think & defind what you say most of the time. Alot of work in this class, essays & quizes, on line stuff & presentations. But a very fair professor...

I was not interested in this class at all when i signed up but had a great experience. If you go to class and take notes and participate once in awhile it will make the class easier. There is an ocassional quiz or journal. Also there were no tests just a few short papers. Great teacher and very intelligent.

I really enjoyed this class. Come to class and take notes and you should be fine. He gives short reading quizzes from time to time, and take home essays that arent hard.

Cholohesy is a very good professor, and if you talk in class he will like you, even if you disagree. He does play devils advocate sometimes, but thats just because he wants you to think about what you are saying.

I would have to agree that he may not be very open minded when it comes to opinions that differ from his own, but the class is cake. A few papers, quizzes every once in a while, NO final. Go to class, read every once in a while, dont ****him off by telling his hes wrong and youre guarenteed an A.

I disagree with above comments, he plays devil's advocate very well. Grade is not about memorizing or repeating back; he wants students to think. Many class discussions on which both sides of the issue were well represented. However, he is very liberal, don't take if you have a problem with that.

Very intelligent man, but doesn't seem open to others opinions. Very boring class. Not particularly tough, but difficult to stay awake sometimes. Would like to see more class discussion, and see him actually discuss an idea rather than simply the life a 200 year old philosophers.

Clohesy is one of the most brilliant people I have ever encountered in my entire life. He has made every effort to encourage me to think on my own, to become a more fully developed intellectual. If you like to USE what's between your ears, take his class!

Arguably the best professor I've had at UNI. Dr. Clohesy is just a really cool guy. Pretty easy course if you read the material. Discussion is very important. Also, get to know him outside of class. Go to his office, talk, and you'll really like the guy.

You are OK unless you say ANYTHING bad about a philosopher which he likes. His arrogance and dogmatism are his ultimate downfalls. A consumate intellectual, if you simply repeat what he wants you to, you are ok. If you like to think, try someone else.
