I LOVE DR. TOLLIVER! He's slow to grade, sure, but he's very kind and will do his best to see every student succeed. He's quiet and sets a slow pace in the classroom, but he's very enthusiastic about his material and that makes his classes extremely enjoyable. Between him & Dr. Artese, I couldn't imagine any better English program.

DO NOT TAKE A CLASS WITH THIS MAN. We did not receive ANY grades for the entire semester. Go back and read that again. He seems to think it funny to keep students completely in the dark about their grades. When he does give you one, know that it was the grade he picked out for you on the first day of class- a B+. That's what he gives to EVERYONE.

I had Professor Tolliver's film class. He's a very charming and funny guy, but I had very little interest throughout the class. A strong interest in film is a must. His grading is slow, and you are not likely to reach him by email or phone (not even when I was out for two weeks for surgery). His grading can go either way, and sometimes his meticulo

Dr. Tolliver is very knowledgeable about both English and Film, but he IS a hard grader, so be ready! Also be ready for his teeny, tiny voice, and make sure you sit up front if you want to hear him. But all in all, a good professor and a good class.

Dr. Tolliver is very quiet. He seems like a genuinely nice guy, but I couldn't help but be bored in the classroom. He is a very meticulous grader, which is both a positive and a negative. Perhaps in a less elementary course I would recommend him. But right now I feel like neither of us want to be in the classroom.

Prof. Tolliver is a gift. Thoughtful, meticulous, and quietly hilarious, he is perhaps the reason that I will continue an academic course in English (American) literature. True, he isn't quick to grade papers, but I never heard people complaining when was VERY quick to grant extensions. Tolliver is fair and understanding to a fault!

I love Prof. Tolliver. He has the neatest handwriting of anyone I know!!!! His comments on papers are really helpful and kind and his discussions throughout class are interesting and clearly shows how much he enjoys his subject. I plan to take another class with him next semester!!!

I've taken over 6 classes with Dr. Tolliver from my first year to graduate school, and he is one of the most intelligent and kind professors I know. He is picky in his grading and takes a long time, but he's more than willing to talk with you about your paper or let you revise it The class discussions are always thought-provoking and intense!

He was a great teacher, but the books were pretty boring. The students run the classroom as he doesn't try to reign in class discussions. I thought he was overall pretty nice. Tolliver readily allowed extensions and was understanding.

Horribly boring. Grading was unclear. Gave me a C+ on a paper when I went to him before writing it and he edited it. Unfair. REALLY REALLY slow grader. Always kept us over the time in the class. Supposed to get out at 11:50..went to 12:00 often. Inconsiderate.

I've had Dr. Tolliver 6 times now, for FYS, Film and English classes, and in my expert opinion, he is absolutely amazing - soft spoken, sure, but very brilliant and definitely not a pushover. He'll usually alter syllabi, too, to accomodate students' interests...he's fantastic.
