She is a tough professor and hard to understand sometimes, but I loved her class and having her for recitation. She's funny and encourages you to think critically and do your best. If you don't like to read, are lazy, and hate participating, its not the class for you. The pop quizzes are the worst though, luckily she drops a couple.

This was hands down the worst class/professor i've ever had here. I've had nothing but positive experiences with professors at Stony Brook until I took this class. She is rude and embarrasses students, doesn't answer questions, and is incredibly difficult to understand, but expects us to know the material perfectly. I honestly loathed her. Avoid.

Going to this class gave me anxiety. I would avoid taking this class. There is no direction on what to study. Material taught in lectures is not the material she will test you on. The professor is rude and doesn't have the best interest of her students. Overall one of the worst classes I have taken. Do not waste your time like I did.

Worst professor I've ever had. Ridiculous. Midterm and final were a combined 70% of the grade. I failed this class and have to take a DEC I to graduate, delaying my graduation date from the spring to the summer. If you value your sanity, avoid this professor like the plague. I thought she would make the topic interesting and I was wrong.

She assigned quizzes with short-response questions that were usually hit-or-miss. The lowest I ever got on one was a 3 out of 10. For the 2 midterms, we had to write lengthy essays but the final was all multiple choice.

I have seriously hated every second of this class and learned absolutely nothing. She teaches entirely way to fast and is difficult to understand. Doesn't use power points and expects everyone to keep up. No textbook required but had to print hundreds of pages. Absent often, Pop quizzes, showed pointless films. Lot of frustrating reading. Avoid!

Horrible teacher, doesnt follow the syllabus, is hard to understand and class is a joke. All the material you are graded on comes right out of the textbook which is dreadfully boring and a long read. Dont take her if you can avoid it.

considering she teaches only upperlevels the class is fairly early, read the books and go to her office hours for the 2 essays, both short and youll do well. the class is extremely interesting, she cancels class all the time, popquizzes are the hardest part.

She is so cute but hard to understand. She actually was absent a lot but had her TA teach. A lot of films with quizzes after and after the reading assignments too. Surprisingly tough grader with no room for improvement. 3 papers and pop quizzes determine your grade.

LOL i've just been reading the other comments, and I must say a lot of them are quite harsh. Perhaps she was different a few years back, but when I took her course in '08, she always came to class! The particular book she chose was an interesting read, and the two major papers were largely based on those. No final exams or midterms, just quizzes.

Overall poor quality of instruction. Not approachable and inconsiderate of students needs. Does not seem to have time, nor care about students. Obviously a tenured instructor who has lost connection to the student/teacher relationship. I would NOT pay tuition dollars to take ANY of her courses again! Overall, very poor!

She was sometimes hard to understand but overall she was good. No tests but 3 papers and you have to take 5 quizzes but she tells you in advance when they will be! Don't have to attend - id take the class if you need it for a DEC!

I really liked her. Yeah, she never showed, but then again, when did we? Besides, she was good when she came. She also threw together one hell of a syllabus with fantastic readings. Lots of reading, but you expect that in a course of this level. Course work was highly relevant and I really enjoyed the class even though im a physics major.
