Taking Spanish with Dr. Osuna was probably one of the most unpleasant experiences I have had at Hofstra. Not only is he cold and uncaring but he doesnt even bother to give you proper feedback on tests. I highly recommend looking for another professor if you have the option to.

Hes a good guy but a terrible teacher. Classes consists of reading the textbook back to him followed by his vague and fast explanations of the chapter. You wont get much help from him when your confused and he expects you to absorb information like you are a native speaker already. However his finals review is great and very informative

Alfy doesn't communicate very well. He deviated from his syllabus almost immediately and never gave us updates as to how the grading policies or assignments changed. There were at least 5 occasions where he said he would email us assignments or updates and never did. The man also has no idea how to use Blackboard, someone please help him.

He is a very kind guy and thinks of himself to be understanding, but can be very confusing. He went off path from our syllabus within the first week and gave all of us grades on our mid-semester reports that didn't make sense to the grades we had received. He was forced to explain everything and correct his errors. Must know everything he says.

Overall a great professor. Very laid-back, and slow-paced classes. I knew all the material already so it wasn't super painful for me, and other students were still able to learn and do well. Overall an amazing professor.

I had him for an honors college class and he wasn't too bad. Assigned a lot of readings but went over them in detail so you didn't have to read. Was a pretty fair graders for essays.

Comment:

If you struggle with Spanish and need to take it to satisfy a foreign language requirement, Osuna would be a recommendation. Very humble teacher with slow-paced and fairly stress-free classes. Just be prepared for his tests. You'll also watch a film at some point that you have to write an easy two page essay on. VERY POOR AT RESPONDING TO EMAILS.

I took spanish 2 with 4 years of spanish experience in high school, so this class would likely not be easy if you have only taken spanish in college. All the homework assigned is on a website and it can be lengthy but easy. There tests are easy, I received A's on all of them. He told us exactly what was going to be on the final exam.

The Spanish department in general is not great. A straight forward professor, but a tough grader. Tests are simple but you need to know all material. Not the best professor, but if you study and know the material you'll pass.

So easy, pretty much spoon feeds you the exam. If you just keep up with the syllabus you will actually learn spanish, which you need for SPAN 2. Do this because he cancels class like three or four times a semester. You'll do good if you let him know you want to and keep up with HW, span 1 is so easy

One of THE worst professors. The best part is learning the history and customs of South American cultures. The worst part is his teaching style. I barely made it thru his class and I dreaded walking in every day. The workload is light but you will be reading a chapter's worth of assignments each week. If you're a slow learner, stay away. I got a C+

The class is hard, but if you have to take it, take him. He revises department tests to make them easier, and if the class argues they aren't prepared he lets you take the test the next class and will review that class. He was kind of unavailable this past semester but it didnt seem like he is always like that.

Comes off as stern, but is actually rather funny and is EXTREMELY good at teaching spanish. I hate the subject but with his help was able to get a B+. He will help you if you need it and is a fair grader for sure. Take SPAN004 with him definitely.

hard course. was not available to all his students, only if you were available 25 minutes after class. he knows his stuff very well so out of all the professors he's the one to take, but it's a hard course.

Dr. Osuna is a wonderful professor. He knows so much about the language, the culture, and the society. He is an excellent person as well as professor. He grades very easily, he reviews the entire test before administering it. He's really there to see you succeed. Wonderful person. I highly reccommend him!

Dr. Garcia Osuna is one of the greatest professors i have ever had. He's an awesome teacher and is pretty good looking guy for his age. His tests are fair and he is really helpful.

Professor Osuna's class was GREAT!!! He practically gave the tests away. He's a really nice guy. I would def recommend his class.
