I wish I had the opportunity to take a class of his in the future. If you read the books and are able to participate in discussion you will be fine. He will call you out if you show up unprepared. However, I have honestly never had a history teacher that was obviously passionate about what he was teaching.

Dr. Millard was, by far, my favorite teacher. He was hilarious, witty, and just a joy to be around. If I was ever confused or concerned about something in the class he would immediately meet with me. He sat and talked with me for hours on end about history and my interests. He is really an amazing teacher and person

Tough prof, but firendly. Will talk negativly in a joking manner be prepared. Easy to get along with. Read the books and listen to him talk. He know what he is talking about, esp when it comes to tech history.

Prof. Millard is a great teacher. If you can't accept other peoples opinions then you shouldn't take his class because he says it how he sees it. He is very knowledgeable and will work with you I highly recommend his classes.

Dr.Millard is a very real professor that tells the honest truth. He is so funny and makes the lecture interesting because of his research he goes beyond the class. You MUST read the chapters to do good, but he'll give you hints on what to focus on in the chapters. He is so funny. I loved his class!!!!!

If you dont want to take tests on his opinions about America then dont take the class. This class has made me want to transfer to another school next year, and I am. He is very liberal and does not care about your sucess in life or his class. Do not take is class if you can't risk a C or a D.

Millard is not someone to take if you don't intend to put forth effort in the class or if you are easily offended. He is willing to work with students if they are intelligent and think out their opinions. Be a good writer or don't complain that he's too harsh of a grader. He writes books - he's going to be critical of papers.

He is an awesome professor who knows his history. His published work on edison is great! Anyway, tests are easy as long as you attend class and read the book and he is very witty and will make you laugh in class, the people on here who hate him, don't like to work or can not handle some of his jokes and comments that are funny in their own way!

I took four classes with this guy (one I had to drop due to schedule conflicts) He was by far one of my favorites at UAB. Yes, he is hard and may be extremely opinionated, but he can also be very helpful. He does not tolerate stupidity. He also wrote a recommendation letter for me for grad school..so he's cool in my book

I attended every class and took pages on pages of notes that did not help at all. You must read each and every chapter to remotely come close to the information on the tests. The only good thing was he was funny. I would suggest taking another professor.

This professor/class was very different than other classes.I felt like valuable time was wasted in class, because this is what I depend on. Reading the text is vital, so make sure you have plenty of free time. He is an expert, but somehow doesn't seem to want you to be one too.

He is very rude. He doesn't teach by fact. he only teaches his opinion. That isn't a good teacher. He tries to make students feel bad. Anyone who would do that is a sad person. It seems to me he is bitter about missed opportunities in show business. If you hate America so much go back to ENGLAND.

I love Prof. Millard. I am taking him for my third time because I think he is that great of a teacher. He really tries to help you when you ask for it and he really knows a lot about everything! His exams are not hard at all if you come to class and really listen to what he has to say.

I am a UAB alum and I cannot believe the mean-spirited comments made about Dr. Millard. He is BRILLIANT--a credit to the University. He is tough and does not tolerate fools. I double-majored in History because of him. He has strong opinions--some of them extreme. Like him or not--he is a very good professor!!!

He is nice, but doesn't know the subject well (usually teaches HY 122). He tries to be helpful. His tests are 20 picky multiple choice, 5 general short answer, and a long answer. Need to know book and lecture backwards and forwards for an A, so not an easy A. He is funny though. We watched 4 movies. No papers, and just 3 exams. I enjoyed the class.
