I was pre med LMU 1984, his class was ok. Needed to tape record every lecture. Lot of questions didn't come from his lecture.Achieving an A was extremely difficult only 5 people got this, the ones who would be accepted to medical school. Felt this course was a weeding out to see who would make it to medical school.

Run as fast as you can. Save yourself hours and hours and hours of tears, sweat, and blood and avoid Smulders at ALL costs. He basically doesn't teach you and then gives you the hardest tests in the world. It is like trying to study for jeopardy. Small font full text slides are expected to be memorized word for word. He is also a lunatic, so run.

HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE professor!! those that say that if you put the time and study, you will do good are completely WRONG!! I put more effort in this class and in memorizing the countless powerpoints (written in paragraphs) than any other class and still got a bad grade. i feel like i hardly got anything out of the class!!

Okay, I want to start off by saying that smulders is a sweet guy, but dats if u ever take the time to talk to him. But just cuz someone is sweet does not make him a good professor. If ur a bio major u know u already have like a gazillion other classes to study n memorize for. So if extensive memorization is not ur forte, then take another class

The biggest obstacle in this class is getting over his kooky personality. Studying is a definite must, but if you put in the time it takes to memorize all the information on the powerpoints, an A or an A- is very plausible. You learn a lot, and it is definitely worthwhile.

Even as a senior he is the worst teacher I have ever had. This class takes as much time as all your other classes combined in terms of reading and memorizing all the info. He told me he tests the way he does (literally on everything) for people to learn how to take notes. He is wrong on this theory and don't think he wants to help studnts.

TERRIBLE. extremely hard and he asks Qs that are totally irrelevant and that he never even mentions. Students in the other bio classes do not even understand the questions being asked. I absolutley hate him as a prof. He told me that we did not need to know something for a test and the next day he puts it on when i address him hes like whatever.

he's a very detailed prof. know all his powerpoints and memorize practically everything. good luck but if ur barely gonna be taking bio, take someone else other than this guy. it'll save u alot of hair pulling.

I can't say this class is hard. Good memory is a must because you learn in lists and bulleted notes. He's fairly approachable and funny in a sick, weird way. But I'm pretty sure I should have gotten an A in the class when he gave me a B. I won't forgive him for that.

Do not take this class!!! He tell you something is not going to be on the test and it will be many time. If you define something in a way he doesn't like it it's wrong he makes no sense during his lecture and his some of the notes he give are useless facts that he uses to put on the test to get students to drop. Find another teacher.

this teacher is horrible...if you can avoid it make sure to sign up for any other teacher....even if you go talk to him he is incredibly rude and unhelpful...do yourself a favor and don't sign up to take him unless you want to retake this course with another professor...which is what i and many others had to do!

Dynamic lectures, fast-paced. Read material before class and take notes VERY carefully. Relisten to lectures after class to perfect your notes and study every word. You'll get an A and have the satisfaction of knowing BIO inside and out. Use office hours to ask questions. Highly recommend this professor.
