THE BEST! Like other posts say, DEFINITELY go to office hours, BUT prepare thoughtful questions beforehand. Practice!!! PRACTICE!! no matter who you take... Don't cram/wait until the last minute. Stanton is smart and definitely the best chem professor I've had... 4 semesters-- HATE chemistry. Did well because he is a good professor.

Stanton is great; yes, he's sarcastic and a jokester which may be difficult to appreciate from some, but he is a great professor. I came in knowing nothing, and he taught as such. He teaches you everything and assumes you know nothing. GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS!!!

Stanton is a great professor. You will learn a lot from him. This class is hard, but if you study from the beginning, you will make an A. His tests are fair, there are only a couple tricky questions. But he gives you extra credit on every test. Take him!! :)

Dr. Stanton is really a great professor. At first he may come off as sardonic and apathetic, and he is; but once he get to know him, he is not that bad at all. Tests are tricky so it makes students really have to know the material. An A is possible. If you want to learn chemistry, take him. If you want an easy A, look elsewhere.

You take a Skills Test(3%),3 tests(23% each out of 110 pts) & ACS Final(28%).No homework. I got a B in the class.I've heard going to his office helps. He loves dogs so bring one if you have one! It might help your grade. He gives practice problems. His handwriting is hard to read and he goes fast thru the powerpts in lecture. He rarely curves

Everything you've heard about him is true. But he does have a good sense of humor that makes lecture a little more interesting. GO TO HIS OFFICE. He will give practice problems almost identical to his test questions. Very friendly guy even though he can seem intimidating at first.

I took his class summer 2011, his tests were very difficult!...next to impossible. On a positive note, he gives partial credit and had a good sense of humor.

The tests are hard, but he gives a curve. I highly recommend to go to his office hours and get practice tests. He is generally apathetic. I took this in the summer and he made lectures somewhat interesting, but he also got off-topic frequently. Be prepared for excessive studying.

Stanton is hard, don't get me wrong. However, if you put the effort forward and act like you half way care and are truly trying, then he is willing to help you out. Key point would be: GO TO HIS OFFICE!! All the time! Let him get to know you and don't take his sense of humor to heart. Attendance isn't "mandatory" but I would def. suggest going.

All these people who say for you to go to office hours is a joke. If you are a young, semi-attractive girl, I am sure he is very nice and helpful to you. This guy is a jerk to guys though. Avoid him at all costs. He enjoys making sure that not everyone passes.

Easy class. Stanton tries to keep lectures interesting, but really...it's genchem. Attend office hours! He will answer questions and even give you hints as to what will be on the test. You have to put in the work, but your grade will reflect your effort.

He is the best CHEM professor! I would recommend that anyone take him. HIs test are paper and can be extremely hard if you do not do the practice problems he posts on eLc or in the book. A major tip to passing his class is to ATTEND OFFICE HOURS! He will answer any questions you have and even give practice test questions!

If you come in to Dr. Stanton's classes with the idea "oh, paper exams must be easy; this will rock compared to JEXAM", then you'll be disappointed -- most of my class failed the first CHEM1212 exam. However, with the proper effort, it is entirely possible to succeed in his class (pay attention to his pet peeves! SF, units).

If you want someone who is going to be nice to you and just give you an A, look elsewhere. If you want to learn about chemistry, take his class. His lectures are interesting, and he obviously knows chemistry. His tests are difficult but fair. Someone complained about the curve for labs, tas are curved, not lab wide to control for how tas grade.

He is the head of the chemistry lab for CHEM 1211. I saw him twice throughout the entire semester. Both times he was yelling at a student. Hhe allowed all of his TA's to tell their students that there would a curve at the end and to not worry about there grades. Got to the end of the semester, no curve, and got a C+ while i got an A in the lecture.

BEST CHEM PROFESSOR AT UGA. Get in his class if at all possible. He grades hard, but his tests are very doable as long as you study his practice problems very thoroughly. (And he doesn't assign that many.) Made a C on the first test and freaked out, but with bonus points brought grade up to an A. I feel like I know everything about chemistry now.
