Comment:
The difficulty of the class was much harder than any other linear algebra teacher. He also is extremely hard to understand and lacks communication skills to properly teach his students. I talked to him at his office hours and he didnt answer a single question that I had for him because he cannot comprehend what students ask of him.

If you don't teach yourself you will not learn. You will find it very hard to follow the lectures as he seems to skip from random point to random point. The homework assignments are extremely hard and prepare to work on homework for 6 hours just to get the three problems you did incorrectly graded. Also there are lots of random pop quizzes.

It's obvious he knows what he's talking about, regarding linear algebra. It was the way he taught the material that made it hard to learn in his lectures. He assigns recommended HW problems at the end of the class which I basically used to teach myself. If you knew how to do those problems then you'd do well on the test. Look him up on wikipedia

Comment:
Extremely unhelpful and unclear. Grading policy was nonexistent and not clearly based on his syllabus. He disappeared for two weeks, expecting the math department to pick up a lecture schedule he didn't clearly explain to them. Refuses questions or input from students, and doesn't speak directly to the class while giving lectures.

The material discussed in class is not hard, but Schein does a horrible job of explaining it. His notes are hard to follow. The worst thing about Schein is that it is impossible to talk to him. I have never been able to get my questions answered or even start a conversation about a certain topic. Do not take Schein if at all possible.

If you register for his class, do this early. He sends messages on how to buy the text real cheap but you need time to do that. Doesn't grade exams and quizzes himself, uses a grader.

Rambles purposelessly, very difficult to follow. Jumps from topic to topic in broken english. Refuses to answer questions. Doesn't follow his own syllabus. No structure.

If you wish to learn Linear Algebra don't take professor Schein, if you wish to have a blow off class that you can get an A without too much work in, then Dr. Schein is perfect for you. The few issues I had with Dr. Schein were his stories were irrelevant, his quizes were over old topics, and he didn't answer one question correctly all semester.

I started thinking he wasn't bad. However, he hardly ever let students get a question in throughout his lectures. I've made all A's and B's so far and I'm a junior now, but I really struggled with his teaching style. I ended up dropping because I had much more important engineering classes to worry about rather than teaching myself linear algebra.

10 years since I had his classes (3 semesters in a row)! Visited the campus, saw him. Advice: he was the guy who taught me how to be successful in life but I saw that a few years after I got my degree. If all you want is a high grade, don't take him (although he is generous with grades). If you want real success in life, he is your teacher

He clearly knows what he's talking about; however, it does not always translate very well. He is more than generous with grading. If you fail his class, then you didn't attend class and never did any homework. I would have an A if I hadn't missed a homework assignment. Just do the work and he is more than willing to help you with the grade.

Honestly, most of the people who have rated him on here must have been really lazy or unintelligent. He's a very helpful teacher and gives plenty of bonus problems and opportunities to make up work. As long as you just do the homework he gives you won't even have to worry about extra points. He's a smart guy too, way beyond that of mathematics.

Great Mathematician. He does know what he's doing. You don't have to solve too many problems, but the few he gives will keep you busy for days. You really have to be smart to pass this class.

Tough class cuz avg score were always around 50% and actually half of the class dropped. Nevertheless, I liked this class very much since I found he is very smart mathematician. He never made us remember formulas but rather explains and shows proof how we can get those. If you want to really "study" materials, take his class. that's good for you.

This guy is not really that nice of a person and can be somewhat picky. Really thick accent so if you can't understand outside accents better not take this class. His way or the highway. So not lenient in anyway. so just be careful if you're taking him. You better be good at Math

He has a very thick accent and is hard to understand sometimes. Very VERY picky about his test, its his way or the highway. You have to show you know exactly what you are doing. Test are very hard.
