Comment:

Prof Holdsworth is an intelligent woman and definitely knows what she is talking about, but her class was just THE biggest waste of my time. My Spanish did not improve in any way. Horrible accent when she speaks Spanish, cringe-worthy. Lectures are long, as all she does is sit and talk about the book while hardly ever looking up at the students.

Comment:

Dr. Holdsworth is very nice, but elderly and unhelpful. She has no online presence, her lectures aren't structured well, and she encourages questions but never looks up to see them. If you're lucky, you'll find people in class to study with, which helps. She's a fairly easy grader for examspapers, but hard to deal with. I won't take her again.

had her for Don Quixote as well. easiest writing intensivve course on the planet. I managed to get an A in the class and never opened the book once. She is older an has been there for years, doesn't call on anyone and kind of talks to herself about the book. Attendance not mandatory she doesn't know students by name really. Super easy TAKE TAKE

Comment:

Dr. Holdsworth is a wonderful professor. In order to fully appreciate her class, you must complete the readings otherwise you will be lost at sea. I would highly recommend her to anyone who expresses a passion for the language itself. I really enjoyed her class this past semester and I'm planning to take two classes with her during the spring term!

Boring. I couldn't tell if she was awake half of the time, but she is smart and enjoys the subject. She is better than some other Spanish teachers here but if you aren't interested in Lit to begin with this will be a challenge for you.

She's such a cute old lady, you can tell she loves to teach. She grades pretty easy, expect a TON of reading though for 271... I mean A LOT. 2 papers (6 pages), midterm and final. Straightforward: She tells you what's on the tests and what to write about for papers. Very English accent in her spanish but it's acceptable.

I had her for Don Quixote, and as the class was in English, I don't know much about this awful accent, but I loved her as a teacher! She is incredibly smart and has so much to say; she is clever and funny and very entertaining. What a great class - She made me love a 1000 page old-fashioned book.

Dr Holdsworth is one of the most intelligent people at Loyola. Yes, she has a strong accent, but once you get used to it you are fine. I don't understand those of you that complain about her being tough on natives. (Remember, if you are in a 270+ class, you should be fluent, native or not, and you should read and you should participate)

This class is very boring. She never takes attendance and all we do is go over the reading from the night before. If you can pay attention its helpful to go, but I find myself zoning out every five minutes, so I recommend doing the reading before class and if you have questions go, otherwise you'll find yourself very bored.

She is very easy. She does not grade on grammer for your papers. On tests, she sometimes allows you to use english for essay question. The class and works used is very boring, but she doesnt force that much participation. No HW other than reading.

The worst teacher I have had at Loyola. She always picks on native speakers. Her accent is horrible, she speaks in monotone, and does not have much class interaction. I actually was looking forward to this class before taking her class, but she ruined the subject for me. Avoid her at all costs.

Dr. Holdsworth, you gotta give it to her, she is BRILLIANT. However, her accent is very distracting, because it is SO AMERICAN! The class was very hard for me, and I am fluent in the language. There is an incredible amount of reading, which is hard to understand and VERY boring. I guess that's not her fault. She's nice though.

Without a doubt, she is intelligent person. However, she is confusing. Not easy on native-speakers...can get them confused. If you are truly interested in the subject, she is not much of a help...not clear on what she really is looking for in tests or papers. Waste of my time and stressful. Just avoid her class if possible

I've had Dra. Holdsworth for several classes, including a few 300-level. She is a brillant person, and a great teacher. Her accent stinks, but she speaks 5 languages, come on, they can't all be perfect. Listen to what she says, not how she says it and you'll learn ALOT.

There's a lot to read that's true. If you don't read you won't understand anything of what she says and we never catch it up. Be regular and it turns out to be very interesting. She is an enthousiast and is very smart. I actually learnt a lot.
