Getting a high grade on papers is incredibly difficult but he genuinely cares about seeing you succeed. Ask for lots of feedback and you'll get it. Get ready to write very long papers though

Do not take honors RHW 102 unless you dont care about your GPA. Youll only be graded on 3 papers, and the rubric is unclear and unfairly weighed. I put so much work into writing good quality papers, and I got a C and Bs because I didnt have perfect transitions or focus statements. Dr. Diller is a good guy, but a merciless grader.

Just in general, Dr. Diller is an awesome person. He let us have some great in-class debates and discussions, and was extremely accessible for office hours and flexible on assignment due dates. However, assignment criteria was vague and changed for each student. Feedback was minimal to nonexistent on assignments. Go to office hours!!

Dr. Diller only assigned three papers for my writing class, but they progressively got longer. For our last essay, the class average was 20 pages. He gives great feedback on your rough drafts, but is sometimes confusing. Just make sure to take his suggestions seriously and make the changes he wants and you will do fine.

Dr. Diller needs to know that you are working hard for your grade. Take his feedback seriously and talk to him in class and in office hours. Even if you are not interested, act like you are. Make sure you have the writing done that you need to have done and stay on your A game in this class. He is tough but a good professor.

Comment:
In Transcendentalism, Dr. Diller appears to be more laid-back in these upper division English courses compared to the composition courses. He still keeps you accountable but he's not as harsh in terms of grading. There is a lot of freedom in how he would let you approach essays. Now, there is a lot of reading as well, so don't get behind.

Dr. Diller grades very strictly, but always leaves comments telling you why he gave you your grade. He is also very understanding. If he thinks you need more time to write an essay, he will push back the due date, so make sure you go to his office. In the end, Dr Diller really cares that you learn. Enjoy your time in his class!

I think Dr. Diller is a very good teacher. But you really need to work hard on his class. I went to his office hour and the writing center very often. I got an A for that class.

Possibly the worst teacher I've had. Didn't learn anything from his class. He literally walks in and expects the students to start class and ask what we need, but then he doesn't actually explain anything. Don't take this class if you want to improve your GPA or get better at writing, because you won't get either of those out of this class.

I have had Dr. Diller for 101 and 102. He is a great teacher in my opinion, but a tough grader. If you seriously want to become a better writer, take him. If you're too worried about your GPA, avoid him. My advice: He grades according to effort. Go to his office hours, go to the writing center, and your hard work will pay off.

He is very rigorous and picky. He does not put up with nonsense. Start very, very early on his papers. Procrastination will kill you in this class. He is available and even makes it mandatory that you stop by his office. Ironically, he is laid back as a person.

If you spend the whole class period asking questions, he is more inclined to give extensions on papers. He grades tough. I made a C on the first paper that he said he was grading "easy" on. I'd recommend taking him if you are ready to work hard and don't really care about GPA.

Dr Diller is not a great teacher. He has some good ideas, but is very unclear in his teaching. I personally do not like his writing style but had to conform to pass the class. He grades essays very rough. It's true-give up self pride and do things his way. Its the only way to pass his class.

I had him my first semester. Personally I adored him. I thought he was humorous and did all he could to help his students. All you have to do is ask for help. Give up self-pride and you will be rewarded

Go to class, pay attention, and add to the discussions. If you work hard and ask for help, he is willing to help you, but you must ask specific questions. I managed an A- but I worked very hard for it. If he knows you are putting in effort, he will reward you for it.
