This class was very difficult and I almost didn't pass. If you have never taken physics before, go to a different professor! My friends who had him with me (who had physics before) were fine, but still found the class difficult and he won't round your grade up (even if you're close to a higher letter grade)

A very difficult professor, but really great. He cares about Physics and cares about his students learning it, so if you don't care about physics, take another professor. If you do, though, absolutely take a class with Dr. Davis; you'll learn more and it's well worth the hard work. He also has a very generous curve + is clear about what is on tests

Comment:
Davis makes the class much harder than it needs to be, using a ridiculous scale to make sure that enough students pass the course so no speculation of the difficulty for the class exists. He makes students memorize all formulas and equations and wastes time in class over concepts rather than genuine practice. Student comprehension is not a priority

I thought this class was crazy hard but his grading curve is the biggest one I've seen in college yet. I got a 42% and wound up with a C+ when it finished. It was nice bc if you show up to his recitation classes he'll give you a potential test question and pretty much tell you what's going to be on the test. So you can prepare yourself well.

Davis was great for 299. Four tests and he gives a potential test question at each recitation so you essentially have 25% of your test guaranteed going into it. Also the grading scale has a 68% as an A and most importantly he is a master of the content and incredible at teaching it. He plays music videos before class. One of the best profs I've had

Dr. Davis is extraordinary as a teacher & an academic advisor. Really loved his class, it is very informational & pushes your level in E&M a lot higher. If there is one thing more impressive, more striking than Dr. Davis's knowledge & background, it will be his ability to be a great person.

Dr. Davis is amazing. His grading scale is crazy, a 70% A and 30% D. He gives a few homework problems online after nearly every lecture so be prepared to do some work. He has a nice website with notes, practice tests, etc. He doesn't allow calculators on the exams but gives alot of partial credit. He makes lectures fun and plays music.

Dr. Davis is a hard teacher, but his grading scale is meant to reflect this. 3 exams will determine the majority of your grade, so it is important to do well on them. The textbook is not necessary, but very helpful. Davis is very approachable--willing to answer questions throughout lectures, recitations, and office hours. 10/10, would take again!

Really nice guy, lecture is boring but it's impossible to make Physics fun for students. He's funny, sometimes interrupts class for a '70's rock band music video or to crack a joke. The material itself you mostly have to learn from homework/the book. Do practice tests to study and make sure you understand them, and you will probably be ok.

I've really enjoyed classes with Dr. Davis. Yes the class is very difficult, but he bends over backwards to help students. He plays british rock in the middle of class because 1.5 hrs is too much physics. He is very specific about material on tests and gives you one of the five (very long) test questions in recitations.

I never came across a teacher whose goal was to maintain a C as the average of the class. I was use to seeing 65's on exams as failing grade but in his class it's a 64 % is a god send. Do your research, and if you can avoid this professor.

Tests are extremely difficult, but the grading scale is designed to reflect that. Grades are proportional to the amount of work you put in. Try to do homework without looking up answers. He gave us 18.5% of the test in recitation, and we needed to answer 60% of the rest right to get an A, granted we did the homework. Learned lots, will take again.

Hardest class of my undergraduate career. You are expected to cover 19 chapters in one semester, only gives you answers to HW if he feels you "tried hard enough" on the original problem. Tests are incredibly difficult. The textbook is awful, too Wangsness instead of Griffiths EM.

Davis is a great teacher. Compared to others, I think he's one of the best. But his tests are so difficult it doesn't matter. His goal is to get his class average grade at a 50%. That's a C+. You will learn a lot with this guy, but if you're looking for a good grade then Davis is definitely the wrong professor to take.

Dr. Davis's test are TOUGH, some of the hardest you'll take. However, he really tells you what the tests are over. He plays plays British rock and the beginning and middle of every class to keep you engaged. He is one of my favorite professors to date. His recitations are helpful, and he's always willing to answer any questions. Overall a great guy

Davis is a good teacher. The only problem is that he jumps over the basic material and teaches the complex parts of it. You will feel like you don't understand anything after taking one of his tests because they are so much harder than any homework assignment you'll receive. Work hard and you can pull out a B or an A with his grading scale.

I though Dr. Davis does an excellent job conveying physics concepts. Great professor. There's nothing to do about the easiness thing though, because well physics just plain isn't easy. If you work hard you'll get an A.

Challenging course, but one very rewarding. I came into 298 with no physics background and faired rather well. Dont be put off by doing bad on the first test, you will learn how Davis' tests work. SI session were very helpful. Class is hard but an A is very obtainable if you put in the work. Davis is a very likeable professor, I strongly recommend.
