He is a really great teacher. His lectures are amazing and always tries to make students laugh. He focuses a lot on the grammar so make sure you proof read your essay everytime. He really helps me a lot when I attended his office hours so go to his office hour! Quizes every class, but it should be easy points since he has a curve on it.

Great professor. Highly suggest. He is a strict grader, but worth it. Office hours are a part of the grade. Quizzes every class. A lot of participation points. Total grammar guy. Probably would hate how Im writing. There is a lot of reading. Grades based on actual score or a legitimate bell curve; whichever is higher.

HE"S AMAZING. GO to his office hours and he helps you a ton lot! Although he's a grammar nazi, he's super nice even though he looks intimidating. I came in with a weak grammar background, however, once I took his class, I can say that I improved a lot. It's not THAT "strong" yet but with his motivation, he gave me the confidence to do better.

Professor Hepler focuses a lot on grammar. There are quizzes every day, so make sure to read the assigned readings. He is hilarious and gives a lot of controversial speeches, so his lectures are never boring. He is a tough grader, but the class is graded on a curve and he lets you rewrite two papers. Overall this class was difficult but insightful!

Although he's strict, he's very motivating. I came into UCR not knowing much about grammar, and I even failed my first quarter English with another professor. However, once I took him as my English professor, I became more motivated to improve my English and grammar. Sure, there may be a lot of work, but it's worth doing to improve yourself.

Professor Hepler was a great professor, even though his course was extremely hard. He was extremely critical with his students' essays. If it wasn't for him, I don't think my English would have improved. Office hours were extremely helpful, so go. There are in class essays, which are rough drafts of your final essay. The workload is heavy.

Good professor but very harsh when it comes to grading. Gammer is very important to him. Loved the process of doing essays (did rough draft and then a final paper). Go to office hours it helps but plan to get there early b/c people do attend quite often. He also takes a long time to grade and give work back. He also gives quizzes everyday so read!!

He's an okay person with cool dorky jokes and gives inspirational speeches on life. But it always seems like he's trying to make someone feel dumb. He's conservative and expresses his views so be prepared to argue with him. He's strict on his grading but can be pretty easy going for the most part. All in all, it's a challenge.

He is adorable. He has the cheesiest jokes but he entertains you in class. Along with his lectures he shared a lot about himself. He really wants his students to improve in grammar so he really tries to simplify lectures.

Professor Hepler is a great english teacher. He really cares about his students and strives to make them appreciate grammar. He motivates the class to participate in class… but he is a very tough grader. You cannot afford to procrastinate. Assignments are difficult but office hours are extremely helpful and encouraged. Quizzes are very simple.

He is very vague in what he requires, prompt wise. He expects a lot and is a tough grader. He complains about how he gives twice as many assignments than a regular 1B teacher because he can never keep up with the grading. I really disliked him. He tells you your essay is good in office hours, but get a sucky grade when he hands it back. Avoid.

Hepler is the best teacher I have ever had because he actually teaches you correct grammar. Yet, he has honestly stressed me out with his expectations on the papers we write in class. He is very passionate about arguing! But as long as you go to office hours he will definitely help you out. I recommend him if you like being challenged.

His assignments are horrible. 4 in class essays, 3 take home papers, 4~5 journals per week, quizzes every day. if you don't try to say something in every class you would lose point. I gotta have him because other sections are all closed.

He was horrible at emailing back. Made everything philisophical. Books were semienteresting. He was never clear on what he wanted done for his class but would mark you down significantly because it didn't match what he wanted. You would go to his office hours and he would say your paper looks great and then give you a low score when turned in.

Hepler is a fair teacher. I despised his class all the way until after the final, but surprisingly if you do all the work you will get the grade you deserve. Just go to lecture, do your reading, and you'll be fine.

Hepler is an extremely hard grader, but he's fair. Sometimes, he can be a bit too picky with punctuation and grammar. Remember to dot your i's when writing in-class essays and do all the assigned readings because he'll quiz you every day. Definitely go to his office hours!

Although he assigns a lot of work, he is genuinely trying his hardest to help his students gain knowledge about correct writing techniques. He taught me a lot and I'm so thankful I had him as my professor. Also, he grades harsh but it's a great feeling when you earn an A! Take him.

Dan Hepler is a tough but fair teacher. Go to his office hours, do the assignments, attend and participate in his class, follow directions and I will guarantee you will pass his class. He is also kind of funny, fun to talk to, and he has conservative political views. If you are a conservative like him and you like English, I would recommend him.

HE IS FRICKIN HARD! I described all the assignments to my friends and it was WAY more than they EVER had to do in an english class. If you are fairly good at english, go ahead and enroll, you'll enjoy his class. but if you're looking to "just pass", go elsewhere. He is also a bit pretentious and old fashioned but a nice guy overall.

THE WORST PROFESSOR EVER. He's a nice and funny guy but he gives TOO much work. If you have 2 times a week, then there's 2 quizzes you'll have to take and he's the hardest grader ever. On the quizzes, you never know what he's going to quiz you about. AVOID HIM AT ANY COST.
