One of the smartest professors at this school. If you're willing to do the readings, pay attention and participate, any class with him is informative and interesting. speaks softly, but with eloquence. funny too if you can keep up with what he is saying. he is challenging and often difficult to understand. no bs. good to visit his office.

Comment:
Decently easy teacher and class, but I feel as though there MUST be a better professor at New Paltz for this subject. Basically whispers in a monotone voice and writes random words on the board as notes. Notes are really hard to study from for this reason. Has a condescending attitude and grades tough on papers but fairly on tests.

great insights, he got us inside the texts we read, the ideas kept on building, hard homework but he carefully evaluated everything. strongly recommend him if you like thinking. you need to be sharp.

Comment:
I would have gained more knowledge about this course (Phenomenology) by buying texts, reading them, and doing research online. Appelbaum failed to analyse any texts, rather he would merely repeat them. He was also inconsistent as far as a policy accepting late work. We never received a syllabus and were never told how our grade was calculated.

Comment:
confusing class unless ur really into philosophy. he likes you to be confused and ask questions, not that he answers it directly. only gives like 2 or 3 essays the entire time and you just have to read the assignments so u know what he talks about in class, if u dont, you will be completely lost and he will know it

Ill tell you when a friend of mine first got me to take his class I said "this man is either an idiot or a genius, I cant understand anything he is saying" then about 2 weeks in i was convinced that he was an idiot.but halfway through the semester it all became clear that he was a genius.Takes some time to get used to him, but well worth the effort

Here's a man that loves to ramble about nothing in particular. He's hard to follow, but you can really get a lot out of him if you put in the effort. Easy grader too.

Listening to him is impossible, very quiet and monotone. Also, he makes taking notes very difficult because of the way he jumps around in topic so much.
