One of the best profs I had at pratt. Very inspiring and a true designer. I imagine the negative remarks are probably from students who just want to show up and pass without applying themselves. His class was fairly easy and straight forward. You just have to put in a little effort. RIP Mr. Brown

He's a polarizing teacher. He will ramble on about things which may not make sense, but when you get accustomed to the way he talks you'll realize he's saying some pretty valuable things. His critiques will most likely throw you off, and if you argue for an A you can get it. He will change the way you think about design, in a very valuable way.

I was frustrated with this class as a freshmen, the work we did was in a completely different world than all the other 3D classes and at the time I thought that was bad. Our work was not clean, and was heavy on concept. The truth is that Mr. Brown changed the way I think, and he affects the design decisions I make to this day, as a junior.

The worst teacher I have ever seen in Pratt. He will give you a bad grade if he did not like you no matter how great your project is or how hard you try.

Mr. Brown was hands down the best teacher i've ever experienced at pratt. The first day of class he told us horror stories about the wood workshop but it was the complete opposite from horrifying. I cant stress enough how much of a pure GENIUS this man is, very lovable if u put it in the effort. he likes if your sassy and independent with work.

Mr. Brown is awesome as a person, but not always as a teacher. He is rather vague on the project and what he wants or expects, but will help you and give you suggestions when you ask. You'll be SO confused at first, but you'll get the hang of this class. If you're in industrial design, try not to take this class.

i had never experienced one of those teachers who are able to change your entire perspective on art, but mr. brown sure did. totally expands your mind and teaches you how to think. every major should take his class seriously. he might be hard to understand at first but once you get used to him he is a goldmine of information.

Gives vague instructions but then expects you to know exactly what he wants once crit comes. Will give random, interesting lectures but you're on your own if you actually want to learn something useful. Switch out of his class if you're going into Industrial Design.

Greatest Professor at Pratt. His methods of teaching reach out towards the bigger picture which is very helpful as a lost freshman at the best art school in NY.

At first I didn't like him. Then I started to get his teaching methods. He tends to prefer the girls and whoever participates in discussions. projects are unclear and not sure how he'll grade them. it makes them open ended. good thing about his class is that you can use any material. you don't have to go buy tons of wood like other classes.

So disappointing. I don't know what he expects from the students and is always critical against students' works. He is also lenient towards those students he prefers and if you are majoring in design, don't take him or switch out. waste of time and tuition

Literally one of the best instructors I have had. His lessons go beyond "design" but have relevance with what happens in life. He teaches communication skills. Say what you mean and mean what you say.

Quite simply the best teacher and the best class I have ever taken. Learning and creating is a challenge and shouldnt be easy. Prof. Brown understands this and instills a rigor and work ethic in students that sadly most teachers do not. Crybabies need not apply.

Brown is moody, argumentative, and too horny for his own good! He made me feel like I wasn't doing my best when I was trying and is an unfair grader. I liked him at first and he made me think, but inspiration does not a good grade make in his class! Stay away if you value your sanity!

Did not like him or the class at first, but his odd obsession with sexual comments regarding everything about the design process and your project started to make sense and somehow helped? Hard to say, he doesn't explain in much detail which means you must actually think for yourself which is great and turned my world inside out, in a good way

At first I thought I hated this guy. But in retrospect, he is probably the best teacher I've ever had and this is probably the best class I've ever taken. Honestly, all you have to do is keep an open mind and give a damn about what you're doing. If you care about what you make, then you will probably benefit from taking this class.

It's so funny how he uses sexual metaphors to explain something. He's a really good teacher though. He questions you until you create something you're proud of. One thing though, I hate it when he touches the FINAL piece and even pulls them apart to see different views. It's all good though. I dont mind taking his class again.

Dave Brown's Foundation class made the cost of 4 years at Pratt worth the tuition. In hindsight, all I needed was that freshman year. Worth every minute of your time and effort. Something to be learned there.
