He is the best professor I have ever taken. He inspired me so much and learned so many new ideas and topics that I find fascinating. I failed the first exam but I was not ready and underestimated the level of difficulty. That being said, read, take good notes on your book and lectures. Re-read your notes after class as much as possible. STUDY!

I took his online anthropology class and i thought he was a pretty tough grader and doesnt give much feedback. There is lots to read, a discussion every week and exams are composed of four paragraph questions and the rest are multiple choice. Gives two hours to complete.

We had 3 field trips throughout the semester. Really big on just talking which means no powerpoints (has some exceptions). All work due involves writing so get ready. Midterm was take home so I appreciated that.

Look, if you come to this class from an outside major seeking a quick, easy humanities grade go elsewhere. Dr. Carmichael teaches anthropology for anthropologists. Now, if you are an anthro major or are genuinely interested this is the place to be. Dr. Carmichael is passionate and expects his students to be as well. Youll learn but hes demanding

Dr. Carmichael is an amazing professor! He's a tough grader, attend class, read, pay attention to the lecture because it will be on the tests, and his lectures are very fascinating. He's big on critical thinking so you can't bs him on the assignments because he will call you on it in your feedback.

He is one of the most fascinating professors is extremely knowledgeable and wants his students to learn as much as possible as him, but he is so passionate about his work that starts talking a lot and does not focuses as much in the class. You have to really hear and take notes of everything he says in order to pass. Tests are really hard.

Dr. Carmichael is easily one of the most fascinating professors at UTEP. He is extremely knowledgeable and wants his students to learn as much as possible. He won't hold you by the hand but if he sees you are interested in learning and participate in the class, he will go above and beyond to help you succeed. I admire Dr. C greatly!

The things he talks about are interesting but the problem is he talks A LOT and sometimes he doesn't give details about certain things that are on the exams, which it really sucked. I hated how didnt gave study guides, so read your syllabus. I recommend you to watch again at home the videos he shows and do really well on the assignments on them.

Unlike other faculty, Carmichael doesn't warm up to passive or disengaged students. The key is participation! If you are a generally shy student that takes in information but doesn't show personal interest...find another course. The students that interact(smart or not) do well. Advice: Raise your hand often, and complete assignments.

I love Dr. Carmichael! He goes off on anecdotes a lot but they are interesting and the work is fairly easy if you take good notes. I opened the textbook maybe twice the whole semester. He also always says if we want more info on a subject to stop by his office. Overall a really good class and professor.

This professor is not good in teching, he will force to learn things his way. You will not learn anything from this class. Make your money worth and take another course. I got an A+ in his class but is difficult to do, i recommend you just find another professor

DR. CARMICHAEL IS AMAZING! I can fit how incredible he is in this little box, but he is. His class is unbelievably interesting, intellectually stimulating, and rewarding. I recommend this class for literally anyone, particular people who actually want to learn in college. Teaches you about the past and our world today! A must take. Amazing!!

This class was so extremely difficult! You'd take a test and feel confident because you knew the answers, only to find a MAJOR point deduction because it wasn't detailed to his standards. He isn't helpful, and while the class is interesting, he is a HARSH grader and the textbook is LOOONG and boring. Take another class!!
