Freshman year, every liberal arts class I have is about as boring as it gets, and then from 10:00-10:50 I get to have a blast learning about Western Civ with Dr. Murphy, easily my favorite Professor that I've had so far. I will definitely be trying to get more classes with him as a Professor.

Comment:

I took the Holocaust course online, but I honestly believe it would have been better to take it in person. You'll have to read, but the content in the end is honestly worth picking up and understanding. He gives excellent feedback on essays. If you pay attention to his study guides, you should honestly do well on his exams. I enjoyed this class.

Passionate committed and genuinely engaging. Can make things even as basic as ancient agrarian societies fascinating. Opinionated, but many fond class memories come from his impromptu rants. Would highly recommend for any course.

I took 4 classes and 1 independent study with Dr Murphy and I loved them all, especially the upper level classes. He was fascinating to listen to in class and he chose good books. I still have most of them and re-read them from time to time. Reading the books can make the difference between B's and A's. (Not sure on class code, I am an alum)

My fourth class with Dr. Murphy, and it was just as great as the last three. The man in a genius and keeps everything interesting. His tests are difficult and you have to read the textbook, but he makes the class worth it.

This guy really knows his stuff, and his witty comments spice up his passionate lectures. The quizzes are mainly over his lectures, but reading the textbook can make the difference between an A and B. Don't expect him to follow the schedule on the syllabus, though. You have to kind of go with the flow for him.

Dr. Murphy knows his stuff. He realizes that we are all adults and he treats his students as such. He makes the most mundane parts of historical fact interesting with his blunt opinions and little-known trivia. He's hard, but you'll learn a lot.

murphy makes the class very interesting and enjoyable because of his excitement for the subject. his tests are fairly hard but he more or less lets you know what the essay questions are so prepare for those in advance. (they are worth 50% of the test!) he asks really hard vocab questions that we have never gone over in class though.
