Professor Odell-Scott is possibly the smartest man I've ever met. He is extremely knowledgable in his field and puts a lot of effort into his students and classes. He always emails back for questions. I extremely recommend this class because it will change your perspectives and help you form your own opinions which is crucial in life.

DAVID ODELL-SCOTT IS AMAZING. You will learn early on he is from Alabama and he will tell a story about how a man and God and $500 (you'll get it once you take the class) once a week. I tell all my friends to take this class because it really gives you a more rounded view on the world. My favorite college class so far. Tests are easy if you study.

While he's nice to talk to, he goes off on tangents about his own life. When he is lecturing, he zooms through his powerpoints and refuses to go back. He posts nothing online, no study guide, so you hope your random notes are good enough to study for the exams. You're completely in the dark and have to guess what stuff he talks about is important.

He is the chair of our Dept and is amazing. My friends and I affectionately call him Dad. Get to know him and your life here will be easy. He teaches all of his upper div classes like grad classes, so read.

Odell-Scott rarely lectures If he does he is off topic and chases after rabbits namely his own stories or name dropping other famous and erudite philosophers. His class is easy to some extent if you dont like learning You'll read a lot but not cover it in class. You're on your own island if you will. I wouldn't take him in upper division classes

He is a really awesome guy. He is very long-winded and it is very, very difficult to decide if what he is saying is important or not. About 85% of the class was spent listening to him talk about Alabama. He has met most of the world's population. His tests are way easier than the course readings would lead you to believe. Very interesting guy.

ODell-Scott challenged me to think about religion as an outsider looking in, and it has changed my entire perspective. 10 years later, I still remember this as my favorite class. Warning - the course is tough, but absolutely worth it.

Professor Odell-Scott is a great professor. He is not easy, but if you are interested in the subject matter he a fantastic wealth of knowledge. Comp. Religious Thought has been my favorite class at KSU so far. Work hard, he has a lot of knowledge to give!

Starts out easily enough, but then gets extremely confusing with deep philisophical but not quite religious thought. Took the class to learn diversity of religions, left wondering if I could prove Death of god syndrome. Wouldn't take a second time.

Comp. Religious Thought. Loved this class! Professor is engaging and entertaining. Lectures can go off on a tangent, hope you are a good note-taker. There is A LOT of reading, so be prepared. 3 exams, 2 papers & opportunites for (minimal)extra credit too. Odell-Scott & his G.A. were helpful and will discuss any issues with you. Highly recommend!!!!

Not the easiest class I've ever taken. A lot of it had to do with the professor, more than the actual work. He stated he hadn't taught Principles of THinking for awhile, and it showed, even his G.A. left me confused. I'm sure he's a good professor, and funny, but due to him not teaching this particular class in recent years, flaws showed.

Really knows what he's talking about, loves to talk. he'll clarify anything for you, which is nice, sometimes his lectures are hard to follow, especially when taking notes. Test are ridiculously easy, but all the material is hidden in all the ridiculous amount of reading. Cool guy, interesting class.

I had him a while ago for comparative religion. He tells it like it is, he's a tough grader, but if you do the readings, listen in class and ask questions, you'll do fine. He was the best prof I had at Kent State.

I loved this class. He went on strange rants about Alabama from time to time, however, as long as you read the material and put forth the effort, it's a great class. Just a warning that there is a lot of stuff to read and cover over the semester.

Where did they get this guy? Arts and Sciences cannot be serious about him! Send him back to where ever he is from. He has ruined the desire for alot of students to learn philosophy. What would Aristotle, Plato and other great thinkers say?

Awesome prof. Everybody says hard, but all you have to do is read. Two papers isn't hard from a philosophy student's point of view. One of the best profs I've ever had.

If you don't like to think for yourself, like being preached at and belittled, like memorizing mountains of information without any comprehension, this class is for you! It has potential, as long as someone else teaches it. You won't know what to study, and will be expected to obey and blindly accept
