It's amazing Dr. Spiceland is still allowed to teach this class. Felt like a high school class. His attendance policy is strict and there are so few grades that you spend a lot of time doing nothing while few assignments determine your grade. You spend at least a month watching pointless episodes of a show and a movie. Absolute waste of a class.

This class was honestly a waste of time, I didn't learn anything. For three weeks all we did was watch television shows which angered me because I'm paying money to earn an education, not watch The West Wing. And he only talked about ethics in a general sense and never related it to broadcasting. He's too old to be still teaching.

This an ethics class so I thought it would be serious. But he jokes too much, makes fun of groups of people and then covers it up by saying "IN MY HUMBLE OPINION" and he'll blatantly tell you he doesn't care if you disagree. If you can get past that, and go to class everyday, you'll definitely pass with an A. Just don't disagree with him.

Dr. Spiceland is an incredibly caring porofessor. Yes, his class is hard but he only makes it difficult so you can learn the material. If you study for the tests and are involved in class you will get an A.

After hearing everyone burn Spiceland down, I was very nervous going into his class. Now that I am out, I can honestly say I can't believe anyone would speak so terribly about this man. There was just pure hatred towards him. Look, he is tough, and expects you to try very hard. But he has a heart of gold, is funny in a dry way, and knows his stuff.

Dr. Spiceland is hilarious. He loves to hear himself talk and is a complete goofball, but he really knows his stuff. He will tell you if you are wrong so don't be afraid of a little criticism, but if you respect him and try in his class he will work with you. Really great teacher, with a really boring course. Give him a break..haha

I had Dr. Spiceland during my junior year in 2011. He can intimidating at times, but he is very smart and knows the subject. Just follow his notes on how he wants the format of your paper to be and you will be fine. Also be ready for pop quizzes at the beginning of class. They last until you finish the book which is only six chapters.

This class was ridiculous. If you have any other options for professors I would highly recommend you take them or put the class off till you have that option. You will not succeed in this class unless you brown nose, and even if you do you are constantly wrong and will fall short of David Spiceland's expectations every time. Success is impossible.

extremely vague, expects you to read his mind. if you argue and prove you are right, you are still wrong. you are always wrong. inconsistent grading. everyone fails the tests. constantly name dropping and trying to make himself seem important. he is an all around ass. i made good grades but i still don't respect him. too bad he is unavoidable.

I have always thought that people who give teachers a bad rating are simply mad because they got a bad grade, but I made an A in his class and think that he is a complete jerk. I do not mind teachers who are though and demand the best from you, but he was rude, pretentious, and I learned very little. COMPLETELY UNAPPROACHABLE! DO NOT TAKE!!!

Kind of a geek but the class is really do-able. You just have to follow instructions and go to class-He DOES know what he's talking about and is really approachable-the class isn't SUPER easy, but it's deff. not hard. Practically no homework-just go to class and take notes-it's really not hard.

The theme of the class: How do you determine public interest, convenience, and necessity? The FCC is that ambiguous and the class really hammers that into you. Its not accounting where its right or wrong. If you can back up with references why you're answer is right, you're still wrong. That's law. If you accept that, you'll do just fine.

I had him for regulations and it was a hard class, but what law class isn't? Spiceland does the best that anyone can do to make communication law interesting. You will learn a ton about the legal side of Broadcasting. And the questions, he will tell you at the end that a lot of them are situation from his career. just take notes and show up.

Wow, had I read everything everyone has said I never would have taken this class, but Spiceland is awesome! Yes, dry humor, but seriously, he knows what he's talking about and he's not afraid to tell the truth. You must go to class and take notes, but this is college, you do that anyway... He's great! I love him!

I think that part of the reason teachers like Tyrie and Spiceland are such hard @$$es is because they prepare you for the industry. Com is one of those b*tchy industries that if you want to get ahead you can't cry about. So with that said Spiceland (even with his boring tangents) did his job as a teacher.

So Regulations is a hard class, no matter what. And Spiceland loves it, BUT just pay attention, ask questions, visit him in his office, and I promise you there will be a grade curve in the end. You can't expect something for nothing. With Spiceland, the old saying "You get what you put in" could not be more true. He has a good soul.
